Odyssea LED help

I've searched and found 1 blog on here about this but it really was never answered but anyways. I'm looking to upgrade my t5's on my 125 gallon 6t long 21" high tank. I want to do a mixed reef including some sps. My friend has has an odyssea metal halide light. I know peoples opinions are mixed on these but he has had great success with his reef for the 9 months he's had the fixture. I was looking into one of these and saw they also have the led fixtures. I understand they are 1 watt led and not recommended. Here is the link to the fixture http://www.aquatraders.com/LED-Reef-Bright-p/56214.htm.

So my question is if I got 4 of these at $129 a pop, 2 on each side, will that compensate for the lack of wattage to sucessfully keep a mixed reef tank? The MH fixture is about the same price as if I paid for 4 of these but then I would have to buy 3 new MH bulbs at $60 a pop and 4 new t5 lights and then the cost of electricity etc etc. So is this an option or should I just run with the halides?

Thanks

Do you like to burn money?

Because that is what buying Odyssea is doing.

If it shows up and works for a few months your lucky. There is zero warranty so if its broken in the box you won't get any help.

If it catches on fire they will tell you not to buy it again. True story.

Although I had excellent sucess with a MH / T5 fixture from odyssea for a couple of years. Looking at these led fixtures they are selling the led's are only 1 watt the standard is 3 watts. Also they are not dimmable, dimmable is a big plus especialy if you get a fixture with a seperate dimming control on each color / channel. IMO opinion either go for a diy led kit or save up for a little while and get a well know led fixture. One other thing that may or may not be concern for you is these lights are not either UL or Ca certified.

I have a friend who just got 2 of the 48" led fixtures from aquatraders for his 75 mixed reef. He went from a 8 bulb t5. I advised against it but he has money and kept his t5 in case (matter of when) of failure. I havent seen it yet but he said the colors he is getting from his corals is great and he is really happy. He said his corals are open just as much if not more than before. I will check with him in a few weeks/months and take pics of his skeletons

I had some. The color was great, the light was bright and had a good shimmer...... Only problem was there is not a fan or vent hole and they get so hot the black metal will start to discolor to a nasty green. Almost so hot you can't touch. The the blue and white are on the same ballast so that is a pain in the butt.

I would suggest their t5 fixture over the LEDs

Odyssea that's funny. I bought a 4 ft. 2 250w MH. It worked for me for almost 3 years and never had a problem. Back then I was telling friends to buy it because the price is right. Every single person I recommended it to had problems all the time. One person went through 3 different ballasts and they burned up. I got so.... lucky on mine. They had a warranty on there ballast.
This is funny, they had a 30 day warranty, not a month, 30 days.
One fish store were I knew the guy very well, needed a part for the customer and called them. They said they don't carry parts for that light anymore. So my friends asked them what he could do and they said just tell the customer he's screwed. There were many other storys but how bout that customer service. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM
