Odyssea Skimmer confusion

I have recently purchased an Odyssea PS75 Skimmer for my 55 gallon reef tank. When I received the skimmer, I quickly found the instructions to be (excuse my french)...CRAP. Does anybody know how to make micro bubbles in the reaction chamber without an air pump? The instructions do not mention an air pump whatsoever, but I have found the only way I can get a good set of micro bubbles for this skimmer to work is to attach an air pump. I have contacted the company (ha!) and have not heard anything from them. I have read a lot of great reviews for this economical skimmer, so I am not giving up yet. Anybody out there have the same trouble?

Thanks for any help,

i have the same skimmer, so....here's basically the lowdown

should of came with a airtube i found that if you heat up the end of the airtube with a lighter or over a gas stove it will be easier to get on one of the inlet airtubes on the pump.....

after you have done that put it in the Salt water( it wont bubble in freshwater) turn it on let it fill up the chamber.

after that one thing that caught me was at the end of the air tube there is a gray plastic piece, what that is, is a air regulator valve. basically unscrew the top almost all the way or take it off either way works the same.

see if that gives you bubbles sometimes i've found that if you blow into the airtube just to prime it and get it going it makes a big difference.

it will take a good 48" to break it in btw...

edit: after reading your post closer. i will bet you dollars to doughnuts the airvalve thing at the end of the air line is closed. i thought my skimmer died since it wasnt pulling anything out for a good week. then i realized the cap was closed tight.....

if ya have any questions pm me and i can shoot ya a pic of how i have mine setup when i get home

I put 3 airtubes on the air inlet area under the foam that covers the end of the pump. You will eventually need to get a better skimmer.

Probably change the venturi out for a better one. I imagine this is your problem.

Could be a number of other things. Usually you get what you pay for in this hobby. I haven't ever used one personally so... I can't tell you specifics.

Maybe mesh mod and new venturi to start with.... then if it works maybe a gate valve for better adjustment. Or you could buy a used octopus and mod that, get some serious skimmate.

ditch the supplied airline and replace with regular airline.
What they give you is too flexible and kinks easy.
dont even bother with the air valve.
make sure you attach to the inlet of the pump, not the outlet that has the little rubber cap.

other questions, read the mega thread
