Hey RC,
I thought it would be fun to have a photo of the day thread.

the purpose of this thread is just to have fun, see some cool reef related photos and get us looking at our tanks.

can be:
FTS
Macro shoots
what ever you fancy
you dont need to be an expert photographer so have thousands in equipment to post an long as it move you in some way share it.

The newest snail in my 75g gorgonian tank is a Flamingo Tongue. Most people can't/won't keep it because they only eat one thing, gorgonian corals, which is why I have a 75g tank dedicated to gorgonians!

Ive caught quite a few of those diving here off of miami. They are very nice.

The color is actually the mantle of the snail. The actual shell is basically pale white.

Ron that is one good looking snail! almost looks like a nudi.
I am so into gords can you post a FTS of your 75 or point me to your build thread.

To everybody, thanks for the comments.

Pinnatus, you are 100% right. The shell is just off white to cream in color. If you poke at the snail it will pull in the mantle and it looks very ordinary.

Devaji108, I don't have a build thread here. I started the 75g hexagon about 6 years ago as part of a 180g DT, 75g Hex DT and 180g shallow sump/refugium system. This is a photo from after I made the stand and just before I moved it all in the house.




This is an early shot of the set up when I was still using MH lights.



The original idea was the 75g would be a seahorse tank. But they do better in cooler water and they need too much food which makes keeping the system clean a giant PITA! So it became an anemone tank and I had 20 crazy cool rock flower anemones in it.



But they came from 40' to 50' deep water and IMHO don't do photosynthesis very well, so they need regular feeding. They were getting smaller over time and were difficult to feed in a 2' deep tank. So I moved them to my 65g shallow reef where they are easy to feed and doing very well now.

So now it is becoming a Gorgonian tank. I only have 4 colonies of one species and one colony of encrusting gorgonian right now and just one trial Flamingo Tongue. So the tank isn't much to look at yet. The plan is to add 3 to 5 other species of photosynthetic gorgonians and 2 or 3 more snails. I didn't snorkel at gorgonian sites last weekend in the Keys so I ended up with 2 more colonies of the same species I already had. Next month I hope to get 2 or 3 new species. My wife and I love these snails and it was my idea to dedicate a tank to them. There are a couple of other species of snail that like the Flamingo Tongue, only eat gorgonians. But they are smaller and tend to change the color of their mantle to match the gorgonian as camouflage. It makes them very difficult to fine. These guys stick out like a sore thumb, but I guess to may predators they don't look too tasty.

I'll post up a FTS as soon as I get some time to clean the glass enough to get a decent picture!
