How can you tell the difference between the male and female Borbonius?
Beautiful painting!
Need to get a better camera and upload more pics. Mine has that idiotic 2 second delay and these fish don't stay anywhere for 2 seconds! Both have nearly doubled in size already and are acclimated well. They "beg" for food at the glass and get along with the other 4 inhabitants; a breeding pair of jawfish and mated pair of mandarins
The face down swimming is just something they seem to like doing sometimes. Nothing to do with their swim bladder. I was worried about that, as well, when they first arrived. It was just the male, at first but the female does it occasionally now, as well
I'm retired, so have the time to do it but will probably work on a smaller scale, as well. Whenever I add a new fish to a tank, I feed a small amount of food; just a pinch on the tip of a chopstick, every time I walk by the tank. In no time, they associate you; and even the sound of your approach, with food. That small an amount, none reaches the bottom and has never affected my water quality and quickly socializes any new additions. The fish in my reef tank are so tame, I can catch them with my hand. It has made feeding my anemones a bit of a pain, since all 4 fish in there attempt to snatch the silversides out of my hand but that's a small price to pay
he will come too. my guy was as timid as could be and now he thinks he owns the tank. ive trained him to eat pellets with the rest of my tank and once a week i feed mysis soaked in fresh garlic, selcon, or the elos vitamins. he is a VORACIOUS eater. i can hear him eat from the other room haha
what pellets do you use to feed em? ive only got spectrum pellets (the tiny ones) which i used to feed my clown and chromis (before I sold em).
Would you recommend the elos or fauna marin pellets?
i have both, have never tried feeding him the spectrum pellets. but i use the elos svm2. i would start them on vitamin enriched or garlic enriched mysis first and just get him eating regularly. and mix pellets in. and then slowly do less mysis and more pellets till its no more mysis. i only like feeding that as a weekly treat for the fish to switch it up for them
