Also do you have the air valve open all the way? or hardly open? trying to figure out what is best

I have it most of the way open. Makes good foam in the tube. It's a balance between cup height and foam to get good skimmate. Cup too low and it's very wet and light. Higher, it makes fairly dark skimmate.

How did you make out with your pump?

For the fusion mini 40 is a skimmer a must or really helps allot? Also Wat skimmers are the best for the 40gal?

I had the fusion 40 running since April. I did not have a skimmer until three weeks ago. I was having a lot of issues with algae. Yes I think the skimmer is a must, and wish I had it running a long time ago

Ok thank you and I planned on getting another pump like an ecotech or something to get better flow throughout the tank to cuz ive heard they do need some better flow. Is that true?

If you have livestock, get the skimmer first! Helps keep the water cleaner in this design tank. The factory circ pump will hold you over till you can get wavemakers.

All depends on what your plans are for the tank. How and what livestock, etc?

It was a good weekend my friends. After months of jealousy I upgraded my Nuvo 16 to the fusion 30L.

Check out my build thread here...

Check out the video I made yesterday detailing the system....

Still some work to be done, getting some flat rocks and going to re-aquascape in a few weeks.

I plan to start with fish only like a clown, firefish, blenny and a goby. I would like to get into some of the soft and smaller corals to

Well, you have to feed all of them. So adding a skimmer now will reduce excess nutrients and save you headaches later.

I only have 2 clowns, 2 shrimp and a crab, plus a LOT of coral. I feed the clowns a few pellets daily, but once a week, I feed the tank LRS reef frenzy and reef roids. Not enough to pollute the tank, but enough that everything thrives. The skimmer goes into real action shortly after.

It's all about balancing intake (food, light, water) and output (growth and health). If everything works well, you'll have a clean thriving tank. When just one thing is wonky, you'll have problems.

I like the ghost skimmer, super quiet, cant see it from the front view of the tank as its flush with the tank top. Collection cup has built in overflow drain in case you have to leave home for a few days

Would a clown, blenny, firefish and a goby be to much for the fusion 40?

I doubt that is too much of a load.
As for the ghost, if it's set up properly, it does the job. Pretty well once it's broken in and the microbubbles stop. And like expensivehobby said, it hides well. Mine had awful micro bubbles until I figured out the pump wasn't seated fully. Now it's pulling nice dark skimmate. Btw there is a fusion 40 thread just for us..

It's not in the description or anything but does dry rock come with the fusion 40? And if it does I was thinking of getting some live Rock to seed the dry. Is that a good idea?

Did it take while for the Ghost skimmer to quieten down? I've got the full size in my SR60 and I haven't run it much as I'm still cycling. When I do run it it's loud, so I put some hard rubber under the skimmer to get it a bit quieter but it hasn't made a difference, still too loud to run through the night.

Yes, it takes a while for it to break in. You will need to give it some time to get those micro bubbles out too...can be annoying. Should quiet down a little bit.
