Official: Masterflex Calcium Reactor Setup Thread

Wow great thread. But all the numbers confusing. Is there one pump that is used most of the time? Sorry if it's been asked.
 
Anyone selling a master flex pump?


Are any of these models any good?

7554-80
7520-60
77521-40

Of those 3, the 7520-60 is a 3-600RPM
The 77521-40 is a 6-600 RPM.

My first choice would be the 77521-40 followed by the 7520-60. The higher RPM capability means less wear and tear on the pump.

Keep in mind that neither of those are digital so you will have to measure your flow to determine your approximate flow rate but both would give you decent control over flow. Neither are "ideal" but they will work fine and there are many CP powered reactors using those models. . It's just nice to have finite control over flow and a means of knowing exactly where your flow is at without having to measure it with a measuring device.
 
Ok so which one with digital capabilities for output is the choice ? Sorry. But the great thing about this forum is the ability to ask rather than read 50 plus pages of posts. I am reading through them but frankly think perhaps best to,simply ask. Thanks
 
In the brushless line the most commonly available units are model numbers 7523-60, 7550-30, 77301-20, and 77301-30.
the newer models would be 7523-80 witch is has been replaced by the 7522-20
these are also brushless
any of these will work for our needs, there may be others, but these seen to the most common, the newer ones are not cheap, just need to hunt them down.

Both a good brushed models and allow you to determine the actual flow rates.. Of the two, I would go with the 7523-20 as it's a 600 rpm version vs the 100 RPM version of the 7323-30. The higher RPM means less wear and tear on the motor.

For anybody with a.question about a particular model, I suggest you use the "Search This Thread" option in the upper right section of each page in this thread. Then type in the model you are looking at and hit search. That will show you all the posts in this thread discussing that model.
 
I have a 7523-20 got it off ebay a while back and its been sitting in the closet. Pulled it out again tonight and ran it, to see how loud it was. I have no experience with these pumps and the one I have makes a very audible hum. It will be installed on a system in the dining room. If I want to sleep in the big bed I better not hook it up. Was thinking of replacing the brushes to see if it quiets it down. Before I order the brushes I am wondering if it is normal for these pumps to hum, or replacing the brushes will quiet it down. No squeaking, just a constant steady hummm..

New brushes will not quiet it down much if any. The brushed models have a hum to them and there is nothing that can be done to quiet them down short of burying them under some towels. I have a friend who did that with his and it can barely be heard as a result.
 
What are your thoughts on a 7520–60. Looks like it does 6–300 rpm's. Using l/s17 tubing does 17 to 850 ml per hour ? Would that work. ? Thanks

That ml/hr doesn't sound right. What head are you talking about on that pump? I could only assume that is not an Easy Load head head unless you are mixing ml/hr up with ml/min. At 300 RPM, an Easy Load head will do 840ml/Min with LS17 tubing. At 9 RPM, you would be flowing about 25ml/min with the Easy Load head which is a good starting point.

I have had my masterflex drawing water from my calcium reactor for over a month now just testing without the co2 on. After the media got saturated with water I have had no more air in the reactor. Last Friday I finally switched the co2 on and shut down my dosing pumps. I got everything dialed in and am holding a phr of 6.7 with 30 ml of flow. I am now experiencing some air building up in the top of the reactor. The reactor is not perfectly level either as the bubble is off to the side. Do you think this bubble is being caused because of the reactor not being level and thus not allowing the co2 to recirculating?
