Hey gang,
OK, FFD is done, its time to start thinking about the next adventure which is our collecting trip on saturday, September 22nd. We have to catch the low tide in Shinnecock Bay so we need to be at the beach by 10am.
The beach is right along Montauk Hwy in Hampton Bays:

On the map, you'll see the main road listed as E. Montauk Hwy
Parking is limited, so what we have done in the past is some meet up at AMW and we try to car pool from there, otherwise we can meet at the beach.
AMW reserves the right to keep certain fishes for our displays that are caught in the seine net but there is plenty to go around, others sometimes bring mask and snorkel or dip net on their own.
We'll be leaving AMW by 9:30am no matter what, unless there is lightning or severe weather.

Guys, I highly recommend this trip. It's always a good time, and you neverknow what you'll find. Last year Tom got a bunch of tropicals, plus there's always the usual temperate stuff. You can get all the macroalgae you could possibly want, snails, and two years ago there was a bumper crop of silversides for food. Unfortunately I have a wedding to attend so I won't be there, but I hope you all have a great time :)

What do we all need to bring? (net, Pole... etc?)
How long does the event last?
Why is the sky blue?
Is a zebra black with white stripes or White with black strips?

Most people bring a buckets with a lid, ziplocks, etc. and if you're looking to bring back some fish, usually a battery operated air pump. We sometimes get a lot of silversides and other bait fish, so some folks bring a cooler with some ice to keep some baitfish fresh till they get home to freeze it.

AMW brings the seine net. We usually collect for between one and two hours. The ocean is not far away, and some folks make a day out of it and then go to the ocean beaches by Shinnecock Inlet for a beach day or fishing off the bridge or jetty.

If I bring some frags from overgrown corals will someone take them off my hands? I don't want anything for them, just have too much green montipora cap and a few other things.

Have some anthelia, a brown birdsnest, and whatever breaks off between now and the trip.

If anyone wants some, one of the pieces of monti is six inches acoss.

I do not want anything in trade because I am moving in a few months. As it is I am going nuts just thinking about moving dozens of corals, fish, shrimp and assorted critters.

i will go, i'll bring snorkeling gear if needed.
sounds fun :)

Why is the sky blue?

Is a zebra black with white stripes or White with black strips?

1) molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light.

2) zebras have pinkish skin with white and black striped fur.

lol

I am really looking forward to this trip since i have not been able to make any of the other collecting trips, i set some time aside for this one.

Are we meeting along E. Montauk Hwy just east of the point on the map? as in east of the P. Bridge? also, i guess we park along the side of the road? sorry for the noobish questions, my 1st collection trip :strooper:
