oh my! I'm new and virtually worthless. with that said - walk us through everything that was done today (water changes, dosing, power outages, dropped a copper rod in the tank). is this a new addition? did you move any corals (looks like it from the pictures - could be angle)? Water parameters? is there anything else that looks upset? anything in reaching distance?

Maybe I should explain the pictures here.....
The worm was in the process of changing location earlier today - pic #1
I came home from work tonight to see that the worm had (I'm assuming) clumsily fallen directly onto the rock anemone and is now in the process of being digested :(

I 2nd that question. If the worm is bothered at all, they can shed their crown and re-grow it. This happened to me once, and the re-grown crown was much more colorful!

Thanks for the commiseration guys.
The rock 'nem is still looking quite bloated this morning - lot of digesting for him to do :mad2:

pepto bismo

Actually Gary... I was/am a little concerned with digestion. I used my last 7g of backup SW day before yesterday in a WC, so I'm totally screwed if this guy decides to blow up because his meal was too big. Looks like he's doing just fine today though.

Did the anemone eat the worm or just the crown?

The worm had been thinking about moving all day - coming out a couple inches, then going back in. When I got home the full crown of the worm was sticking out of the 'nems mouth, the the 'nem was already quite bloated and full. Also he burped up a little piece of worm this morning - sitting on the sand bed now.

Thanks guys - I hope he still has a stomach-ache.
On the bright side - I got this rock nem when he was totally bleached and he seems to be doing quite well. Healthy appetite.
Now if only he'll turn a pretty color.....

I have a feeling that as suggested, it just threw it's crown. I suspect in a few weeks you'll see a new one.

Also re: the rock nem, how long did it take to get from bleached to current coloration? I've had a bleached one for about a month now, and am just beginning to see some hues of fluorescent green around the mouth.

Well Justin, I would be happy and surprised if it just threw the crown. I'll go ahead and leave the tube in for another 3 weeks probably - just to be sure. I already once removed a tube (I was just going to give it a pinch to check on it, but it was empty) of a different worm who had in fact shed the crown and relocated. I found him later near the original location.
Anyone know what the base of the crown looks like? Is there any flesh on it? Twice today I found some fleshy worm pieces in the tank (being eaten by the cleaner shrimp).

I got the nem 6 weeks ago - it was pure white, and much smaller. It's been slowly putting on this brownish color (which I actually wondered if it was algae at the beginning), but in several spots it looks green as well.

Wow, very fascinating! Thanks for sharing this.

You're welcome :)
