not knowing what they look like in the first place I can't tell you, there were several small whitish brown things on the bottom of the bucket afterwards, but whether they were nudis or standard detritus I can not tell you

lights turn on at 10 so around noon or later I'll post an update as to how the montis look in general today

They look like white spekles about 1/4 of a grain of rice or smaller and usually in groups aligned around the edges of the bleached section in the underside (shaded) portion of the coral.

FWIW, 12 def. needs a di resin change. I change it if it hits 1. When working correct you should have 0.

so far after about 20 hours the corals appear the same as before (so this is good because its means I didnt kill them or that they havent died yet)

thanks for the suggestion, Roy, it says "changed from green to brown"....well to me green and brown are nearly the same color and under the sink cabinet doesnt yield much light for color comparison

does any DI resin work with any filter?

You can get any DI Resin, I buy mine only from Spectrapure, but I know others use Kent, and probably more then that I know of.

How many stages is your RO/DI?

There are several options
If you have only one DI stage you will be looking for a mixed resin or mixed bed cartridge that includes anion and cation resins.
If you have two stages of DI you may want to use Anion resin on the first and cation on the second or if your water is treated with chloramines you may one an ammonia removal resin cartridge in the first and a mixed bed in the second.
If you have an on-line TDS meter color changin resin is not really necessary but if you do not you may prefer a color changing resin to have an indication when it is exahusted.
Note that if the membrane is not giving you the right rejection, the DI cartridge can be exaused very quickly. In some cases in just a couple of uses.

FURTHER UPDATE: this is embarassing to admit, however after contacting habib with questions about the calcium test kit it came to our conclusion that the kit was not bum, but the user (me) is a bum....so...yeah, whatever, I need the kit, etc anyways

as far as the filter goes, this is the filter I have, it is a 6 stage w/ dual DI chambers, it has been running since about November

Just use a mixed di resin in both. I'd recommend a vertical di be added onto that though. In the meantime, pull those off the clips and use some zip ties to have them hang vertical. It will help with channeling some.

FURTHER UPDATE:

DAY 2: the treated corals are looking great, they are regaining color and the white areas are starting to grow algae on them (I think this might actually be a good sign)


on another note, now that I actually know how to use the test kit I did some testing
calcium : 500
alkalinity : 9.8 dkh (3.5 mEq/L)

so water is looking good

I havent gotten around to checking my filters yet (or orienting the DI sections vertically) but I will get to that...finals are the next few weeks
