things were going really well in my tank, then all of sudden death...
i noticed my Crocea Clam did nose dive off the rock work into the sand/on to my green plate coral...i picked him up and righted him...he still looked fine and the plate was no worse for wear either...i left the clam on the sand, until i had time to fix his rock wrk so he couldn't jump/fall again
next day i noticed the clam i only partially out and there is a blue leg pickin at his mantle..
sad and scared i pull the clam out...nastiest smell i have ever had the displeasure to encounter...so i shuck him and toss the shell back in the sump for future fraggin...
test my water and everything seems to be fine...PO4 ammonia, nitrate all undetecable, nitrate about 10, cal, alk and mag are all above normal a bit...460, 10.6, and 1700 respectively...ph 8.1 and salinity 1.026.
barring that i figure the nose dive must have done him in...
next day i awake to find what i though was a molt from my CBS...sadly it was the shrimp....he was very healthy eating what i dropped in there molting every three weeks...now dead..
today i wake to find my Hawaiian Feather duster dead and hanging out of its tube by what looks like its guts...strangely enough no crabs cleaning up the death...
upon further inspection i find that all my blue legs are dead too...
i also have a 10" black brittle star that is doing well through all this so far too..
what the hell?
i havent introduced anything into the tank for about 6 months...fish are all fine...SPS is thriving as are my LPS...my zoas are all receding but have been doing do for many many months pretty much since i started into SPS about a year ago...and started Carbon dosing to reduce nutrients..1 ml in every batch of limewater (1/2 g daily)....snails (what i have left, what the hermits didnt kill for shells) seem to be fine...and stupid pistol shrimp is still clicking away too...
anyone have any ideas what i could have done to my tank to wipe out almost all my inverts? i would like to replace them but fear there may be somethin in the water killing them...i will be doing a 50% change as soon as the water is ready (tomorrow) but just wondering if there is any other insight?
i dont have a copper test but i am sure the SPS would also be very sensitive to copper?
help please
