Oh No, My Montis Are Touching

No big deal. Just two montis (Bright Green Monti and Tyree Flower Petal Monti) getting close to touching each other but they will work it out.

Look at how cute that is. They are touching and seem to be getting along. See, montis can touch.

That is quite the reaction based on that small area of contact. And the big problem with
plating montis is once that algae gets started on it.. it rarely wants to come off. So at that
point in time I chop it up and start over with healthy pieces. Stuff grows like a weed anyway.

Nice pictures !
I think between montis the more colorful normally win in theses battles... like in yours !

On the same topic, I've got an orange monti cap that is encrusting really fast and approaching a newly placed frag of acropora pearlberry :

should I worry for my frag ?
thanks

Yes. that montipora is hardly worth letting it mess around with that really nice
acro frag. Chop up the monti in my opinion and get it out of the way if that is
a prime area for that frag.

Otherwise simply move the frag to a place where it can grow for a year or longer without
others corals messing with it so soon.

ok thanks... that is indeed a prime spot for my pearlberry...
problem is that the monti is encrusted on the rock... maybe some epoxy on the monti ?

Thanks. That might be a common trend but I don't know for sure. I have always thought that the slower the grower the stronger the sting. That is just a rule of thumb so it doesn't always apply.

If you mean two part epoxy I suppose that would work. I would just try
tweezers first or what not and see if you can get under it and chip a piece(s) off.

Off hand I am not sure really, without seeing it in person. You know best.

I tried epoxy on a superman type monti and yes it works...but you better cover every single polyp. If you leave even one polyp uncovered that sucker will show back a few months down the road.

Personally I really like watching the interaction when two sps go to battle. Call me a sadist, but it's an interesting event. It does suck when a orange digi overruns a purple monster however, been there done that.

update :
got lazy this month and didn't keep the monti in check... here are the results :

put some epoxy on the monti to keep it at bay after that...

Aqua- Honestly your better off relocationg that frag. That monti will be a constant battle for you. FWIW your RR pearlberry is much closer to the ORA chips acro.

Thanks, I'll see what I can do with the epoxy but I think your right...

I got that frag from a LFS and I think it is from wild colony... they called it pearlberry like but Ithink it is acropora plana...
