A fellow reefer i have recently become friends with made an impulse buy on the way to my house this evening and he is now acclimating in MY sump! He decided on way over that he would be too big for his tank, so i told him i'd hold it until he or i could sell it.

it is a 2.5" Clown Tang !!!!

***Please give me low-down on these guys......how long could i keep him in my 120g(no other tangs) before he'd outgrow it? Is he a picker? Are they aggressive from young/small towards other fish?
Are they Ich Magnets??

i can always keep him in my 50g. breeder sump until we sell it

Sorry I don't know much about tangs - but I feel your pain because a "friend" of mine just bought a male Cooper's anthias & I am having to acclimate it in my refugium. ;) ;) ;)

Just kidding - I really believe you :) Oh - and uh... does anybody want to buy a male Cooper in the Houston area?

They have about the same temperment as a Sohal. A 120 should be alright for one, but once it's adapted and grows it will become the king of the tank..... the bright side is they are reef safe. In a tank that size I wouldn't add any other tangs and it may bully any new additions.

wouldn't be ANY new additions until i upgraded tanks.......Do you think he will grow to attack all the other guys in tank?small yellow watchman goby, lawnmower blennie, 2 small ocellaris, 2 small green chromis and 1-3" swallowtail angel(nicest fish in world)

Matt, it may, there always execptions, but if it was mine I would keep it .......beautiful fish...good luck with it.

man....i just tore down 50% of tank to catch a emperor who in one week wreaked havoc on fish and sps. If he was a turd off the bat i'd be really p'd off at myself? He is awesome looking though and he was free?
-i busted a piece off my cap. and a tip off my fav. blue tenius in that experience....

very very awesome fish. but can be ich magnets if u dont have the right setup. just get a seaweed clip and youll be good(they love seaweed) it will be perfect for a 120g. and i have to ask since i have never seen anyone from the lehigh valley on this website. i live in emmaus, where do u live??

A lot don't start to eat while others get so ocuppanied with attacking the other fish that they stress out and die or just don't eat enough.

A very pretty fish but probably better left in the ocean.

And yes I know a # of people here have them but most don't make it.

took about a week for my CT to even take a bite of food. he was so freaked out. he was a nasty liitle bugger when i acclimated him. i thought he was going to rip the bag. but yea.......
eagles,
wheres your LFS??? This weekend im looking to take a trip to some stores so i might want to stop at all the stores i can;)

I know from experience that clown tangs to not do well unless they are in very large tanks. You can try feeding my clam or mussels on the half-shell. i would leave the meat on the shell. If he doesnt take to that I would find a LFS with a big tank to take him. Clown tangs in general do not have a good track record.

You should be good for awhile with him, but if you have no plans of upgrading your tank size then I would find him a bigger home somewhere.

Good Luck!
