ojonas JBJ 28g build thread

my apologies if you are already addressed this, but do you have a refugium? I am trying to decide how critical/necessary it is

I don't have a refugiem. I have not figured out a good way to implement one without either looking ugly or taking up too much space. I was contemplating a HOB fuge from CPR but that would mean I could not run a skimmer and GFO reactors. At the moment I hold those higher.

Sure you could.. As long as you don't get the "small" "fuge, you wont have a problem hooking a HOB reactor. Probably wouldn't the neatest, but very plausible. You'd simply have the reactor pump inside the 'fuge and hook the reactor onto the 'fuge. :lolspin:

have you considered macro in your tank?

did you add any pods to your tank...like these:

not that I know if either are necessary, just curious. I was thinking of going without a refugiem..i have a skimmer and actually 3 reactors..so I was thinking of going with any combination of carbon/phosban/bioplastic or maybe all 3 if i can fit all 3 reactors and figure out a good way to plumb them. Then add some macro to the tank

anyhow...was wondering if i should maybe add the pods to my tank towards the end of the cycle and let them establish a colony or if that is not a good idea..

A short update. The tank is running along fine. All values seems to stay intact except for phosphate that is still a little too high.

Have got a few new corals but since I am terrible with names I don't know what they are called. Below is a list of all corrals in my tank. Please fill in the blanks for me if you know what it is called.

Grass tentacle coral? This one have very long tentacles from time to time.

Green Frogspawn?

Green mushroom?

Green toadstool?

Green Zoointhias?

Red mushroom?

Green Torch?

I also have one Silver Xenia as well.

iFisch: Could it be that I have a branching Hammer and not the compact version?

On other news, I just placed an order for a Vortech MP10 circulation pump. Hopefully that will do good for my tank when it arrives next week.

Got a few new frags last weekend. Have not glued them yet. Since I am terrible with names, does anyone know the names for these 4 new additions? Also if anyone have any recommendations to specific needs (light, flow etc) I would be grateful.

Got my new MP10 delivered yesterday and installed it in the tank. I love it. The flow is so much better now and it made my tank clearer as well. Have it on Reef crest mode at the moment. Is that the best move for a mixed reef tank?

Had my first causalities the last couple of days. My skunk cleaner shrimp got killed by my Tiger Pistol shrimp. Think he got too close to his hole. I also lost a brand new purple firefish. I did not make it through the first night.

All corals are doing very well and growing good except the Toadstool. It has not shown its polyps for a couple of days now and it looks a little smaller than when I first got it. All water parameters seem to be the same as before except for Nitrates that went up to 5ppm. Think that had to do with not replacing the filter floss I am using. Was kind of saturated with solid waste. Got a new one in now. Phosphates are still high so I am seriously considering a Phosban reactor. Or should I got with 2?

I have been thinking about getting an MP10 for my nano..

Do you have yours set to full power? I have finer substrate than you and I worry I will create a sand storm!
