ok, i was at my lfs 2day and they had "florida black seahorses." which i assume after sum time researching i think they are Hippocampus sp. well i just fell in love with them. i want to make a seahorse tank, i was thinking about gettin either a 12-14gal or a 29gal biocube." which species can i keep in those sizes." (im leaning towards the 14 because i already got a 29gal, and 46gal tank running) so what do yinz think...

All seahorses are Hippocampus sp. ;)

They're probably Hippocampus erectus, and likely wild caught. Not a good purchase for a first time seahorse keeper.

As for water volume, for most of the larger species of seahorses, like Hippocampus erectus, you'll want at least 29 gallons. But, biocubes need a lot of modding to fix the flow and bring the temperature down to 71-74 degrees where it is needed, so you're probably better off with a stand alone 29 gallon tank that you set up yourself.

well i witnessed the seahorses eatting frozen mysis shrimp (thats another thing that really caught my eye, ridiculously slow eaters)

dwarf seahorses need a dedicated 5g-10g setup; keeping in mind the threat of hydroids (which usually results in a tank without corals), low flow, and no tankmates. They also need small live foods like need newly hatched brine shrimp twice a day (so you'll have to hatch brine yourself daily).

dwarves only eat live. sometimes they may try frozen, or even be temporarily trained to frozen for a time, but they don't stay on frozen foods and need live.

Hippocampus erectus, hippocampus reidi, hippocampus barbouri, hippocampus fuscus... all of which require temperatures 71-74* and aquariums of at least 29 gallons.

well the temp thing isnt a worry for me i got a chiller i aint using atm...(got it for free from buddy) but im assuming its a pair only for a 29gal...hmm idk if i wanna do that now
