Nice snag! I would look at the pic, but I think I would have to become a member:)

I get the following:

OK so I hosted it on my own site:

gkarshens I got some stares when I won the second skimmer, especially from those who know there is no way I could use them in my system. I traded the Euro-Reef for 3 nice coral pieces and some electric blue hermits. I'll post pics of the corals when they open up. They are currently in the QT.

I got stuck with the ViaAqua Skimmer/UV and let me tell ya, that thing is bizarre. I think I am missing a couple pieces because there is now way to actually mount the UV lamp. I popped it onto the QT and really I have been wanting a small UV for the QT but I have a feeling this skimmer will end up on eBay fairly quickly. We'll see how it goes but I had a buddy over and neither one of us could figure out the directions...OK so we were drinking Carouluous Grand Cru, but not a lot! :D

melev I was just thinking Stanley Cup when he snapped the shot. I love SWAG. :)

 Funny:lol:

But I would like to see the euro, side by side with your skimmer just as a comparison... Lets see mass production vs. DIY!

:smokin: well i think i have gotten to the end...And now i want more! what a nice looken tank, i think i would of had a stroke just setting it up! way to go!

Thank you very much, i have been reading melves thread for the past two months then found Jonathans. "my wife is going to hate you guys!" heehee

Enderrea hey thanks for the compliments! :) You're local so you should come visit when you get the chance. I just acclimated the 3 corals I got over the weekend and did their dip.

Now I am trying to catch the PBT but let me tell you, it is not going well. I am going to try the lights-on deal in the middle of the night and see if I can't get him when he's groggy. Or else maybe i need to build a fish trap?

Well I saw my little friend from back on page 10 again today while the lights were out. I tried to get a picture but they were too blury to post. The good news is that I have positively ID'd it as Stomatella. After the second flash it was gone...that sucker can really move!

So I guess since it was high up in the rock the first time I saw it and obviously sperming the tank, that there must be at least one more and they are trying to breed. Since they are considered reef safe, I guess I may be able to produce enough in this tank to pass along to other gastropod enthusiasts! :D Now if I could just catch one...

Well I got home today from a 4-day fishing trip out on the Coast and found everything to be in good shape. pH was a little low at 8.10 but that's not too bad. My wife had decided to dial back the skimmer because she didn't realize (and I didn't tell her) that during feeding the skimmer shuts down. So she virtually closed the outflow valve to get the foam to rise. That caused a small inballance between the sumps and removed about 10g of very wet skimmate. Otherwise no problems and no floods! yipee! I am planning on switching out my sumps for larger ones and found some during my trip that may fit well. I want to double capacity but run the same volume so the system won't be so sensative to level changes.

Today was an interesting day as we had the highest temps recorded here with it reaching nearly 100F. Drumroll pleeeaasse....the tank, with no chiller, never got over 80.2F!! That is so cool because it means that merely using fans will keep a large reef tank cool with minimal electrical consumption. I must be so proud of myself! :D

On a more sour note, the female maroon clown continues to beat on the digitata and when I came home it and its rock had been flipped over. I put it back upright, noticing quite a few snapped off tips. That is a total bummer since before I left it was showing strong growth. I went back to check the tank an hour later and she had again tossed it breaking off more fingers. Total PITA!! I moved it to a different area in the tank and mounted one of the broken fingers to another rock. I hope it doesn't die because it really had a nice form to it!! I also noticed a lobephelia had caughed up some brown junk but I didn't get a chance to investigate before the lights went out...I need to sleeeep!!zzzzzz

It's usually several days of hot temps in a row that I notice my temp rising. If we have two or three days in the high 90s to low 100s, I open the garage at night or really early in the morning and run a fan in the wetroom to lower the temp back to a normal range. So far I am with you though, tank stays cool enough that I can't justify a chiller:) The highest my tank has got up to is 81.6 I think, before I added a fan over the sump. Now it hovers in the 80.2 range.

I feel you pain on the rock. My lone hermit keeps topping my zoos over. So I'm going to mount the rock the next time I break out the ladder to reach into the tank:)

Get some sleep:sleep:

Jonathan,
Oh Baby it was hot out this weekend. was in Port Angeles painting my parents house, 103.3 on the roof! That was before10. am. glade your tank is holding temp. with my sump /over flow even last year when it was 90 for like a week it was okay and that's only 100 gallon total. you've got a ton of Surface area

You were in PA? It was smoking out there. I went to La Push for the Halibut opener and drove through PA on Sunday. BTW, the gal that put us up had a very nice stock tank for her horses that I hadn't seen before and I may switch out my undersized Rubbermaids for them. They are Behlen brand 100g 53" x 31" x 24"h and they are at the True Value in Sequim. I like them much better than the Rubbermaids because of their shape.

Hop I hear ya'. My clown has really screwed up this digitata though and I was so happy it was growing well. I think I really am upset about it but somehow can't be mad at a fish...'

My tank is back down to 76.8F this morning so I am not real concerned about the heat wave we are having. Don't forget my incoming air vent is under my deck and cooler than the ambient air anyway, plus I can open the house vent and push cool air in from my heat pump as well.

Quick update...

Built a fish trap yesterday but the damn fish won't go inside. They just keep pecking at the sides trying to get at the food...what a bunch of maroons!

Among the things I won at the PSAS Picnic was a ViaAqua Multi-Skimmer with UV. So we all know it's not the best built skimmer and is a bit more complicated than it needs to be, but I am keenly interested in the UV aspect for my QT tank. So far, trying to buy a UV device has proven difficult because they are made to be installed inline and I don't have any external pumps on the QT.

So this multi skimmer presented a unique opportunity. Unfortunately it was not packed correctly and did not have the plastic insert that blocks the UV light from escaping the skimmer. Long story shorter, ViaAqua would like me to pay for the part and shipping so I think I am just going to have to toss it. They faxed me an Order Form with the item and left shipping and total fields blank. It also requires payment info. including CC number, signature, etc. and I must say I am a bit hesitant to fill out an essentially blank order form.

Oh well, whatever.
