OK! Enough chat...Starting a 1000g+ Reef

no doubt. I just watched a yellow tang shove around the foxface, which is larger and more dangerous. The yellow kept pushing it with its mouth and chest, and after a while flipped around and gave it a few slaps with the ol' scalpel.

My Powder Blue Tang thinks my foxface is a cleaner fish or something. It's always swimming up to it and tilting over waiting to be cleaned. Uhh...it could just go to the cleaner shrimp or neon gobies, ya know?

foxface are interesting fish behavior wise. They actually are extremely friendly, but the tilting could also be a move of submission.

I have been contemplating increasing the size of my tank within the same footprint. Since I have such powerful lamps, this would enable me to lower the reef a bit, have plenty of shaded areas and hidden spots. and room for me to get inside the tank to clean.

Tank Length = 96 inches
Tank Width = 60 inches
Tank Height = 72 inches
Tank Volume = 1795.3 Gallons (approx.)

That is 5 x built in waveboxes and the same overflow I currently have. It will effectively remove the stand which I have nothing under anyway except for my blowers. Plumbing will be added to this and my previous design and posted when I can get to it.

That is all.

Yes! Yes! You have to be able to get in the tank!

That's the ultimate goal of any true fish geek!

I know it is a dream of mine!

Not to mention what a great visual effect it will be to see the fish disappear into the depths and reappear somewhere else.

All you visual rock work could be elevated on pillars with awesome flow possibilities below!

My mind is struggling to grasp the incredible coolness of this option!!!

yeah, I am interested in doing this, and just need to figre out the cooling aspect without the stand. Since my blowers are pulling air from under the tank, this would have to be changed.

I have a couple options in mind though, and that would not be a "deal killer" anyway since I will be attempting to install a ground loop cooling system anyway.

I have learened a lot from fellow large tank owners and I want to take the reef "illusion" to a new level with zero visible plumbing, extremely chaotic flow, and a window to the reef viewing pane. I would like to emulate looking out of a submarine at a reef scape.

you're alive Tom?

I am planning on running a pressure-rated return system with Penductors for the floor of the tank.

J, pretty cool pictures you've got crawling around in your noggin.

Those long rectangular boxes on the side, are those dry overflows for your vortechs?

well, it would add some, but overall, with the wave boxes de-tuned, I expect to get an estimated 62,000 gph in the display and about 4,000 - 5,000 gph through the overflow.

 you know better than that Barry. Those are integrated wave boxes.

You could form the floor in troughs that allow water changes to suck out every ounce of detritus with each change. It's just an asweome concept!
