OK! Enough chat...Starting a 1000g+ Reef

Kevin, an electrician, says that you buy a surge supressor. Basically they go into your main panel and they protect your whole house. He says last time he checked they were expensive, and usually a special order type thing. Its also an electrician thing because your tapping into a live bus, everything about the installation has to be done live.

If I was closer I would share that tequilla...drink one for me!

It's an article about whole house surge protectors and towards the bottom they provide links to manufacturers that make that equipment. Looks like for $1,000 or less, you can buy the equipment. Of course, installation is on top of that.

So was I! :D

I Think my job is pretty secure, I'll have to ask my Boss ( my wife) if I am same or will be voted off the island!

J since your alk supp's are no good, can you get yourself a decent plasters lime? I haven't bought commmercial kalk since using plasters lime. You should get little sediment out of it, as it has to be as pure as possible to not contaiminate the mix when used for plastering.

I looked at Garden limes a long time ago but was told that they are not pure enough.

The last one from Lowe's looks like plasterer's lime.

Please tell me that isn't 50lbs of Kalkwasser from Lowes for $8.68! *banging my head on the table*. I'll try not to think about the 35 lbs I bought from twopartsolution and how much it cost to ship it to me.

I learn something new from this thread every time I visit it.

Which is also the amount that I ordered/have on hand. Hmmmm....same? :)

Mine actually works quite well, though. What do you think the problem is with yours?

Yeah, well I have a 5g bucket of a popular "aquarium" product that seems to not be very good.

I'd guess purity of the product. If the lime's any good, then you shouldn't have a problem, unless your reactor can't keep up with the alkalinity demand.

$8.68 for 50 pounds sounds good if the lime is a good quality, that's about what I pay for what I can get :D
