OK! Enough chat...Starting a 1000g+ Reef

I wouldn't even try an Achilles in my tank. I love the way they look, but they are quite agressive as you already know.

Rock on jnarowe, I LOVE your tank man!!!

That video is sweet too, and the litttle "cat interruption" is sooo funny :D!

Thanks Austin. That cat flash had a guy on another forum going beserk. We all told him that we couldn't see it and he posted two videos he took of his monitor playing the video...it was hilarious. In the end he freaked out and logged off. He thought he might have been hacked.

Well, once again it comes down to individual personalities of these fish, I guess. My Achilles Tang is the most passive tang I've ever owned, and very easily bullied by other tangs or aggressive fish. He's just a puppy...though 5"+ long. I actually wish he was MORE aggressive and defended himself, and wasn't such a wimp!

The PBT is by far a much more aggressive tang in my experience within that genus of tangs. Though Sohals are king. My Sohal is fine with the Achilles, but he's 9"+ long, so not threatened.

Is your back feeling better, bud?

MY BACK BITES. And I totally agree about fish personalities and how they are affected by the group dynamics. My PBT is a sweetheart. Really, my fish are all well behaved except for the maroon's extreme prejudice when it comes to me.

Well, I at least hope your beer is cold again! Yeah, every time I see pics or videos with your infamous maroon clown in it, I can't help but laugh. It's become a legend on this thread.

My fish are reasonably well behaved, with the exception of a pair of egg-laying convict damsels I took in from a friend moving to Texas. Now those guys are bad!

damsels are mean as heck! and clowns are part of the family...who would have guessed??

Thanks Eric, and good to see you around. What's going on in your World?

I really should take some "attack" vids...but maybe everyone has seen that already. so many on youtube now, it seems kind of anti-climatic...I wish I had a vid of her tossing a large rock/coral. That is really the amazing thing.

She tossed a 8" x 6" wild colony plus the rock it was on a couple days ago, and the colony up an RTN'd yesterday. Seriously, that freakin' fish has killed another coral and I am so mad about it. Hence the mad smilie. I now am the proud owner of one of those rare "white" corals.

I have switched to frozen 3 Olives Vodka...trying to lose some weight.

That is one freakin' strong clown! I'd be po'd too if she killed a colony that big. The only sps coral tosser I have is my big blue tang. If I don't epoxy or glue 'em down to big rocks, it picks 'em up and carries them all the way across the tank. No territorial issues or otherwise...the fish is just naughty that way. It's picked up acros 5" tall glued to big chunks of live rock, no problem. Nothing like what your clown does, though...you've really got to get that on video! :D

Everything BUT WORKING ON MY TANK. HEHEHE..I HAVE BEEN LURKING IN THE BACKGROUND HERE AND THERE..JUST A FEW WATER CHANGES AND THAT’S IT. I NOTICED SOME SURFACE RUST IN MY GARAGE ON SOME TOOLS SO VENTALATION IS ON THE LIST SOON.

I HAVE BLUE DAMSEL THAT I HAVE HAD FOR A FEW YEARS AND HE ALWAYS PICKS ON ANY NEW FISH TO MY DISPLAY. ONE DAY I WILL CATCH HIM AND THROW HIM IN MY FUGE.

IT IS FUNNY HOW PEOPLE ALWAYS LOSSE CHROMIS WHEN THEY STRART OFF WITH HIGH NUMBERS I HAVE SEEN A FEW ALL BEAT UP IN MY TNAKS OVER THE YEARS AND ALWAYS THOUGHT THE BIGGER FISH WERE PICKING ON THEM UNTILL I SAW 1 OF MY LITTLE CHROMIS PICKIN ON THE OTHER BIGGER CHROMIS AND EVAN 1 OF MY TANGS..

Well, the strange thing about the ones I had was that they would systematically cull one from the hred, but the last chromis standing is a total runt, dis-figured, and behaviorally strange. It is currently hosting in a hammer coral.

Rust? I got rust for ya!

I did a stupid thing and installed "stainless" work tables in my tank room and even though they look "cool", I have to maintain them to keep them rust-free.

The other issue is like the wireless bridge and other electronics don't do so well with salt-laden humid air. WHen I do my tank room remodel, I will step up to full air quality control.

I started the acclimation for the CBB and Scopas yesterday and it will take about a week. Once that is done, I will night release them into the display.

how dare you! i clicked back all nine-thousand pages and splits of this thread to see it from the beginning, and all the pictures were gone! ill never get that part of my life back!

Wow, how do you go about doing a 1 week acclimation? I thought I did long acclimations with 3 hrs on drip :D

Jeff, I designed that into my QT system. There is a line going from the display refugium through a gate valve, and to a float valve on the QT tank. When I want to acclimate I open the gate valve and remove water from the QT tank with a pitcher. Usually about 2 - 3 gallons per day.

This ensures that the only stress the fish endures during release into the display is social in nature. I feel it helps a new fish manage the stress better.

Not sure about what pictures are gone. A while back I had a space issue on my web site and I did delete a few, but they shouldn't all be gone unless I have been attacked by the RC gremlins again!

Anything in particular you want to see?

BTW, I now use photobucket for most pics...probably end up having to go "pro" soon.

Gotcha ;)

That sounds like it would do a great job acclimating. Does the QT system have it's own filtration when offline from the main system?

How do you introduce new fish to the social order? Heavy feeding then put them in after lights out?
