thanks. even light lifting is a "no-no" but seriously, how am I supposed to put my pants on?

Pants! ... Who needs pants when you have beer, vodka, and vicadin?

Really, there's nothing worse then that feeling that you just can't do anything for yourself or anyone else!

Thanks Chuck! I appreciate that.

I have been asking around getting info. and most of the responses are basically very light excercise, walking, and rest. It's so hard to rest though. Real rest anyway. The big problem with me is that when I start to feel better, I forget about being careful.

Today I could barely walk when I got up, and my right hand is numb. I did manage to give my overflow a cleanout last night, and once again the float switch in my collection bucket saved the day by shutting down the skimmer air pump.

So Sherman came by tonight, helped me drink some beers (brought a nice one too) and brought me these:

He made them and will probably be selling them soon. They are really nice shapes and good quality.

Also found a pretty good sized finger of hydnophora broken off, and a minor wound on the female maroon clown's forehead. The finger was at least 1/2" diameter!

The wierd thing is that coral has been there for a very long time, and now she decides to screw with it?

Wow, a lot has happened since I've been last here. I guess something happened with my subscription.

How did you kalk. tests come out?

Hi Catherine! I guess everyone "lost" their subscription, plus I have not been very active posting de to back problems.

Kalk testing is still on-going. I am currently using the Warner Marine kalkwasser (calcium hydroxide) and it is doing very well. I can't say anything very conclusive about the TLF because my "testing" got buggered up, but I can say it performed very well and much better than the ESV. Like night and day in my situation.

Kevin, the other local reefer involved in the testing, has not had good results with Mrs. Wages or the Rowa. Neither lasted long enough for him to give a positive result.

How are you doing? Kick any girl butt lately??

I kicked lots of girl but last weekend! Our travel team is heading to Tacoma, WA to play the Dockyard Derby Dames on September 27th. I'm not on the travel team though, so I won't be going.

damn. that would be cool to get together. there are some great reefs to see around here. so that means you always have home team advantage? :D

Depending on how things go this month, and flight prices, maybe I will catch a ride down to see the game.

it's a long trip as you know! Let us know if you do come down and maybe I can set up a tank tour for you.

I should know by Friday what is going on. I'll post in my thread, as I have a few more big things in the works right now. A tank tour would be awesome!

I have been getting asked on various forums how the kalkwasser "testing" is going so here is a brief synopsis:

I am currently into the second week of using Warner Marine Kalkwasser (Calcium Hydroxide) and can report excellent results. My system appears to have stabilized with the following tests today:

Alkalinity: 8.8 (Salifert)
Calcium: 385 (Salifert)
Salinity: 1.024 (Had 3 overskims in a row with it already low so I need to get his back up)
Magnesium: 1420 (Salifert)

These numbers have been stable for the last week. Coral growth is visibly accellerating, but I have had one colony RTN. No idea why.

I will continue to use the Warner Marine until it is "exhausted" or I just plain get bored and switch to a new kalkwasser. I figure at least 3 - 4 weeks to properly gauge its performance.

Quick Update:

Sep 10 2008 20:00:15
Temp pH ORP Cond
81.0 8.12 285 00.0
pHA1
6.41

Salinity: 1.025
Calcium: 400 ppm
Alkalinity: 8.40
Magnesium: 1380

SLight dip in alk due to over-filling my sump to get salinity up. This then shuts down the top-off until the water has evaperated off enough, and usually is for about a 24 hour period. Otherwise, all is good! :D

New scopas is fully in general population and making darts into the swarm during feeding. STill quite ratty looking, but making improvements every day.

No US trip for me unfortunately, but my consolation prize is a new house so yeah...no complaining here.

How many different mixtures have you tested so far?

I am still on my second. Tried out the Two Little Fishes and now on the Warner Marine. Both have done quite well IMO. Kevin tried the Rowa-Kalk and Mrs. Wages with not very good results.

New additions in QT:

Tomini Tang and a Freckled Face/Lavender Tang. I am not sure on its ID yet.

It was very difficult to get any shots so this is the best of about 80 pics taken!
