Ok, ok - so what is fish poop?

I've been trying to do a little research on things I can do to brighten up my corals. I just purchased 2 more powerheads for my 65, and I was searching to find out what people 'feed' their sps's. On several threads I recall several people saying they fed only fish poop. "Wow" I'm thinking, this must be some really good stuff - so I do a google search and can't find any brands of fish poop. I guess some people are chuckling right about now. Are you insinuating that sps's actually eat fish poop, or is this something I can buy in the LFS? I also figured out that all the DT's I've been dumping in my tank really isn't doing much except helping my algae grow.

Okay, that was funny...I almost spit out my Guinness on that one!!
Like stated above, it means fish and lots of feedings or lots of fish or both. Fish poop(detritus) is consumed by the corals in a broken down form.

I would imagine that your colors not brightening up would have more to do with an excess nutrient problem rather than a lack of nutrients in the tank problem. If you're only skimming with a remora pro, you're probably not running your system as devoid as those people who complain that their corals arn't colored up because their tank is too clean.

Are your corals not coloring up brightly, or are they brownish?

If they're brownish, then it's got more to do with excess nutrients. I wouldn't really ever feed for the corals. Get a few small fish if your tank is devoid of nutrients...

Not that funny. I used to grow bonsai and one of the fertilizers I used was nothing but fish poop. I'm not sure what kinda fish it was from, but it was straight fish poop. It has me thinking, can we instead of adding more fish, harvest fish poop and add it to tanks as an additive? Do I see a new market?

I see. After I couldn't find anything on google, I figured that is what it was. Had to make sure though.

I test weekly for NO3 and PO4 (and several other perams) with salifert. I have 0 NO3, 0 PO4. I have about 140lbs LR between the sump and display, and grow chaetamorpha in the sump. My only fish are a 2" maroon, dragon goby, and 1.5" firefish goby.

My corals are pretty colorful right now, but I've been browsing through some pictures and was wondering if there was any way to brighten them up. They are very pretty as they are now, but I was just looking for ways to improve. Thats all.

Are you suggesting that the remora pro is too small a skimmer for this system? I was under the impression that it was one of the better skimmers on the market, and would be more or less perfect for this tank. What would you suggest?

Not at all. I bought a couple of pieces a while back at a discount because they were "browned out" and both of them are now colored nicely. As I said earlier in this post, the corals are pretty bright and colorful, I just thought there was some room for improvement.

I use some various Zeovit products with really good results. Pohl's coral vitalizer was the first one I bought and I was really happy with it. So far every one I've bought has done exactly what they say on the bottle. In total right now I do coral vitalizer, sponge power, Jod complex, and food 7. Next I'm going with pohl's xtra.

The fish poop that they sell for hydroponics and garden stores should not be used in your fish tank unless you want a serious nitrate and phosphate issue.

Lots of fish and fish food in your tank...lots of small particles that drift to corals.

Not an additive...and I wouldnt look too much further into that...aside from maybe buying a few more fish.

Photoshop. That's how most people get the wonderful amazing colors you see in the pics.

lmao ..... but seriously I've been using the red sea pro colors system and it's worked very well, I use A,B,C,D which are diff elements and also there matching colors test kit(test for potassium, iron, iodine). price is very fair too!
