old man needs VCR help

This is bordering on insanity.

Coax in to Fios box.
HDMI from Fios to TV.
Pr Pb y to DVD player. Audio white and red to DVD.

HDMI from TV to DVD player.

NO SOUND but DVD video coming through. No speakers plugged into DVD player.

If I unplug the HDMI from TV to DVD nothing happens. Still have video no audio. If I unplug green "Y" wire I lose video.

Does this mean I must simply use the surround sound's speakers? Shouldn't I be able to get audio through the TV itself???? Madness!

Poor Cully. I honestly feel frustrated for you, lol.

If ya feel like ever playing with it again start out simple.

1) Unplug EVERYTHING.
2) HDMI from DVD to TV
3) See if it works.

Regardless, good luck. As for the blinking 12:00 that I'm afraid is WAY beyond my knowledge.
