Old Town Aquarium - Question

Jose is right on the price. I am under the impression that you have to order a pair as that pair is not for sale, but I could be wrong.

I think you're right nmprisons - that pair is not for sale - and the price is indeed $499.

But those are some really, really unbelievable clowns. Gorgeous.

I'm a newbie, stopped at Old Town....talked with a guy named Rommel -- he was very patient and helpful.

Does anyone know the type of aquarium they have when you first walk in, that is black, and sits on a black "modern" stand, across from the cash register? They are not crazy about the Nano tanks, and recommend this one, but I don't recall the brand.

Hi Lux,

That tank is made by Innovative Plastics Inc...did they have numerous other tanks that had the same modern look just different sizes/shapes? If so, we are talking about the same one(s)

As far as this thread goes...I have been there twice...I walked there last Monday from work...I work downtown....right by the Sears Tower...nice little walk, but next im taking a cab...lol

The person who helped me last time was Jim...very friendly and patient. That is how I know Innovative Plastics makes those kind of tanks. But anyways...I havent had a problem with any of their staff and I'm all about customer service. :)

Back to those tanks...the filtration/sump is on the back of the tank and seemingly difficult to maintain/access if against a wall. It doesnt leave you options to customize as the skimmer, pump everything is made for it. Personally I want to customize my setup, but Jim did say that they could have the tank made without that and still keep the overflows and holes to have a sump underneath or wherever so that is cool.

I'll probably be going there again soon..but in a cab. :)

If tap water is not so good for my fish and corals, it can't possibly be that good for me to drink it and cook with it.
when you cook with it you are killing off all the badness (if that ia a word)

I work by the Sears Tower also. That is a heck of a walk. Straight up Wells?

Unfortunately, that is not true. The metals and other toxins are not cooked off. Bacteria and some checmicals, yes, many chemicals and metals, no.

Yeah...straight up Wells..

I went outside with the intention of getting a cab, but it was nice out..how things change..right? So I walked and walked and walked...by the time I got there I was sweating..I know.. TMI.

I wont be doing that again. :)

Has anyone been there in the last couple of days? They had a small 4-5" Conspic. Angel that I was thinking about buying and having shipped to me. I was wondering if anyone has seen it recently and if it looked healthy?

Why dont you try and send a pm to nmprisons, his name is Adam. I think he stops by old town often, tell him that Jose told you to pm him.

I actually gave them a call and they have sold it since the last time I spoke to them but they have some other fish that I might be interested in.

I am also new to the hobby and have gone into OTA and the guy that helped me was patient and answered all of my newbie questions. I travel alot to all of the suburbs so I have choices and so far I like OTA and a small store in Elgin..

I was there a couple of days ago and I noticed that a sales person was selling a new customer a set up with coral, fish. The problem that I had was that the sales person seemed more interested in selling the product and not so mindful of the time it takes a project like that to mature. You could see that the customer had $$$$$ to spend but I think that a good reefer should make sure the customer understands that one can't just go and get a reef in a bottle, it takes time.

I have been there many times where I have heard them push customers away from buying things and do a great job of explaining how difficult certain species are to keep.

Ultimately, however, they are a business and if somebody comes in with more money than brains and insists on spending cash and doing it their way, I am not sure if I can judge them and fault them for making the sale. What you heard was only part of the conversation. What you may not have heard was the conversation prior where they may have told him that they would recommend he take a different approach. Who knows.

I was there on Easter Sunday with a fellow RCer and they really took care of him with great advice and went the extra mile testing his water and walking him through some remedies.

I have ordered fish from them and had them shipped to me in FL. I call every once in a while to see what rare Angels and Clowns they have in stock and recently was looking to get a small Conspic. Angel but unfortunetly I hesitated to long and they sold it. I generally deal with the same guy everytime I call and he will not sell me a fish if it has just came in and has not started eating prepared foods or is not in good shape. He then will call me as soon as it is eating and in good health to check to see if I am still interested.
