Older Nano-reef Skimmer Pump Question

Heyo,

The pump in my old 9002 has been having trouble starting up, it seems to run just fine, but won't start all the time. Does this indicate the entire pump is going or could I possibly get away with just replacing the impeller? Part number : 1073.087

Since it's older I'm assuming it's the 0800.040 pump that would need replacing.

Thanks for the advice.

A 0800.040 would actually use the 0800.042 impeller.

Does the impeller look damaged in anyway? The usual issue being the base of the impeller broke off- a grey plastic ring. The magnet can then spin without engaging the impeller.

If the motor has any browning or discoloration inside the rotor well, this would likely indicate that motor has overheated at somepoint and may be the culprit.

Roger,

Thanks for the reply. If I wanted to just get an entire new 9002 could I still attach it to the Magnet Holder 6080.50?

Not without some modification, since 2008 all 9002 skimmers have the nano magnet glued to the back, mediabaskets.com sells a custom version of 9002 where the magnet is loose, not glued on. This model could have the screw plate glued onto it so you could attach the magnet. I am not sure I would do this, simple because there will be a brand new model nano reefpack in just a few months and to me the choice would be fixing what you have or updating completely.
