Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

Just picked up a pair of these groovy fire fish:fish1:

Very nice additions Greg :)

Oldude do you have a cover on top of your aquarium for those firefish?,I have kept the common one's the fire goby and they definitely do have tendency to jump out , especially with lights going off suddenly or if chased by another fish

Leonardo_ Nice additions, great pictures
Thanks Leonardo, I've been thinking about wanting some of those for a long time.

I don't have a cover but fish rarely jump in this tank due to the size and plethura of hiding places. I guess time will tell but I have been pretty lucky with this tank. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed)
Lavish62 - Your photos are amazing, what lighting conditions are you taking them under?
Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you like them. Most photos are taken on 14K lighting.

I seem to get a lot of careless snails falling into corals at night. This little a.horrida colony caught a snail a few weeks ago and has already almost encrusted over the whole thing.

I'm kind of digging this coral lately since it's starting to smarten up.

Nature is so COOL!

Nature is so COOL!

I just went down to have a look at the tank and the fish were having a feeding frenzy on what from a distance looked like air bubbles but with a closer inspection they were actually clouds of tiny little white creatures that I have never seen before. I don't know if I just had a huge pod explosion or some just fish spawned a about a thousand fry or what. They were about copepod size, whitish in colour & straight looking with eyes however they were not mysid shrimp. As I said I've not seen these before but it was very impressive because there were literally big clouds of them. I need to start keeping my video camera charged & near the reef at all times because there has been some very interesting stuff happening lately.:crazy1:

Definitely get that camera charged Gregg! I'd like to have seen what you described... not something you see, let alone even "hear" about everyday???

As usual your corals look phenomenal, nice Helfirichi's too!

Thanks a lot Dave. Yeah it was really interesting to see. It reminded me of a National Geographic special where they show large sholes of fish being eaten by bigger fish. I did see some go into the overflow so maybe they will grow in other parts of the system but I'd assume they would likely get eaten by my firefish living in the sump.

Too bad you couldn't take pictures. It would be interesting to determine what it is :) I remember I had a copepod explosion one time without knowing what it caused. LPS and fish had a good day! ;)

If you have perpermint shrimp in the system, I have seen spawns from them that look just as you've described. But, it could be anyhting in the system with a mate!

Love your system! Your pics are sweet!

Thanks for the compliment. Hmm, I do have cleaners and peppermints so who knows. I was just surprized at the amount of these things.

Here's my latest but very "timely" addition to the fish room.

Maybe now I won't get lost in a "space/time continuim" the way I normally do when I'm tinkering around in there. On occasion I can literally loose hours at a time.

Haha that is awesome! It's also maybe the only way I'd feel ok keeping a Sohal. Only trouble is my wife wouldn't allow that in the livingroom.
