Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

Hi Oldude, when i started running biopellets i also noticed certain corals bleached, as these are fairly new methods and not perfected yet, i am pretty sure something the biopellets did is the cause.

Interesting feedback thanks. I have heard mixed reports about them but I am surprized they would cause an issue when I am only running 1100 ML in a 700 gal system so far.

Greg same boat here-- I'm not sold on the pellets in fact me and a couple of friends did take them off-line due to unexplained RTN and coral death.;)

Agreed. I've heard several reports of people's corals bleaching shortly after using the pellets. They have not done enough research and released them too quick. IMO I'd stick to what you were doing before. I know it's fun to try new product, but I'd wait longer to see others results rather than dive in and take the plunge. The natural way has always worked best for me. I believe one of the new tank of the months does this same approach. He said he tried everything and after all his experience, went back to the natural way. Fuge, skimmer, carbon, GFO when needed, and 20% biweekly water changes(smaller more frequent wc's the better) has always worked for me and that why I'm going to stick with it. I hope you find out whats causing this. Good luck..

I think the recent "tip burn" and a few other issues may be because I hadn't changed my DI resin for a long time. I took some TDS readings this morning;
H2O going into RO Prefilter was 147, after the RO filters 001 and after going through the DI stage it came through at 258. Yikes I was contaminating my water and almost doubling the TDS contained in the straight tap water. I think this likely contributed to my problems more than anything else.:blown:
The timing may be a coincidence?

I am so jealous!
Hopefully I will get my angels in qt in February or March...
I hope that works out well for you. All the angels I have in my soft coral tank have very poor behavior when in comes to stoney corals, zoas, & clams, etc so unfortunately they are not welcome in my display tank.

The only angels I would ever want in a DT are the imperator and the navarchus. I'm sorry you are unable to show either one.
