Working in an ad agency, I tend to think about how logos will reproduce on different mediums...like t-shirts, fliers, advertisements, black & white photo copy, internet, etc. Typically, the simpler logo works best. Most importantly, we want to remain consistent once a new logo has been chosen.
Thus, from a "professional" standpoint, I think the logo with the seascape behind it will reproduce well on everything...with or without the clownfish logo (that part could be optional).
Your college try is much better than mine (I created the old logo while in college a long time ago <g>). Only had MS Word with clip art at that time, though...
