Omega Sea Premium Sea Salt

Petco is offering this salt now at $69 for 180G bucket. I ran the numbers and here's what I got.

NO3--0
Kh--9
CA--380
Mg--1100
Ph 7.6 @80F
Base water Ph 5.2 @ 80F

Seems to dissolve quickly but was still cloudy after aeration and circulation overnight. I'll run numbers again next batch but it does not look like a good reef salt to me.

Why game it with salt mix, find a good brand and stick with it. As much trouble as it is to get a good balance in a reef, why risk it with cheap, unknown, crappy salt?

Nothing ventured noting gained. You kind of contradict yourself. Trying different things and sharing experiences in forums like this why.

My experience with salt is that you really have to make the whole bucket or bag to get accurate results. There is just too much settling in a bucket. Even with brand name salts using the same amount of water and cups of salt mixed in - I get different results each time. I believe you are better off using the smaller bags if you aren't going to make the whole bucket at once. Just my opinion...

Some are mixed better Pharm grade mixer gives consistent results. Tropic Marin is one of the few that I never found a bad batch, great quality control.

Todays 40G batch after 24hr aeration a bit more clear than the last batch

Not much different than the last batch...

Tropic Marin is notorious for having batches with extremely low Alk, I had to stop buying for that reason.
