I am home sick and thinking about the energy costs of running my tank. Something came over me and I ordered a Solaris 48" LED unit. It will be here Saturday! I sure hope it is as good as they say. I'm very excited!!!!

This means I will have some MH lighting for sale. 2 luminarc minis, 2-250W icecap MH ballasts and 2 14k Hamilton 250W bulbs(still have a couple months of use left).

If you are interested let me know. I hope to have them available Saturday evening!

$175 each set or $325 for both.

EDIT: I also have the PFO EL Ballast Box (for IceCap Metal Halide Ballast). These cost $40 new, $25 each.

I might want one of the MH setups.
Pics?

Is the ballast electronic?
How long were the bulbs run?
Does it come with a reflector?

CONGRATS on the new lights.
You must let us know how well these work!!!

John - as long as your fingers are clean!

Steve - the icecap ballasts are electronic. One has been used about 9 months, the other about 1-1/2 years. The luminarc minis are the reflectors and they are awesome, $120 new. The bulbs have been run since last July.

Count me in for the newer ballast, bulb and reflector.
(Unless you sell them both at the same time)

Thanks

What's a ballast box?

PS I want to come touch it too!!
;)

Hey,

I am in the process of getting the lights hung. The Solaris light is pretty cool, but the look is different than the MH. I have decided to let myself get use to the Solaris before I sell my MH sets. Sorry :(

I just want to make sure this is the route I am going.

Thanks and I will post some pics when I get everything just right!

Probably a good idea, Kim. LEDs are no doubt the future of reef lighting, but I think it's still a ways from replacing what we currently have. I think it's a great option for softies and LPS, right now, but the white LEDs put out so much less than the blue LEDs, that you have no choice but to run a really blue tank to get the Solaris' maximum output.

Good luck!:)

congrats on one of a kind lighting system! I think you are the first one here in sac with the solaris!.. leave some feedbacks about it once you get it up and running... ive heard alot about it but no one has it yet.
