OMG! my electric bill doubled!

Quit now while you still can!! I'll take dibs on any large sps colonies you have :D

I think SDG&E is a lot cheaper...this is my current bill:
Baseline Usage 306 kWh @ $.04377
101% - 130% Baseline 92 kWh @ $.06394
131% - 200% Baseline 214 kWh @ $.15939
201% - 300% Baseline 27 kWh @ $.15939

Seems to me like it's less than half the price of Edison. Cool thing is, I'm still in Orange County.

Who knows at what Kw (20, 40 ect since I use 64 a day) per day does it go over the 200% mark. That is where we need to start first to save.

Sorry you're off still.

Try 15.4 kWh a day for the summer! Winter is even lower. Only 11.7 kWh a day were allowed

I'm looking at all the options including replacing all my light bulbs.
http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=cfls.pr_cfls

what if I just have my family congregate in the tank room all the time? no other room lights allowed, no TV, nothin' but the almighty electric guzzling min-ocean habitat in my office!

I unplugged the kegorator over one month ago and still have tears in my eyes when I pass her in the garage!

oh yeah, be sure to add both transmission and generation charges to get the full rate per kwh.

I believe the above tables are just generation charges?

A mere $206 for me... guess I ran the AC a few days, but also have 2 400W computers + monitors running 24x7 that probably don't help things... Managed to go into the 'over 300%' range, which is always pleasant...

Baseline Allowance 316 kWh
Baseline Usage 316 kWh @ $.03892
101% - 130% of Baseline 95 kWh @ $.05909
131% - 200% of Baseline 221 kWh @ $.16689
201% - 300% of Baseline 316 kWh @ $.17596
Over 300% of Baseline 28 kWh @ $.19179

This Month | Last Month | Percent Change
31.5kWh/d | 34.0kWh/d | - 7.4%

Let me try asking it a different way.

Does anyone know the actual breakdown for Kwh in each tier?

Tier one (baseline) maxes at .....KWH
Tier two from .???? to ???? Kwh
Tier three From ???? to ???? KwH

and so on. I am looking for the actual Kwh numbers not percentages.

Also this is for SCE since I do not use SDG&E

Thanks

Mine was $250.00 last month no to bad. But for next year, I'm going to buy a AC portable unit & a smaller generator then I have now.
It's stupid to try to cool the whole house down, just the room we are in and fish tanks. Same room.

Tony, that information is printed on your bill. The baseline varies by season. Then the percentile ranks of the tiers are a percentage over the baseline for that season.

SCE summer season baseline is 10.2 kWh per day.

One word: SOLAR.

Still thinking about it, but I'm waiting for Arnie's incentive package to kick in (another piece of vaporware from our fine CA government...).

Also, didn't we just go over this increase issue a month or two ago?

One suggestion (Nicole, IIRC) was to unplug things like your stereo, tv and other items that sit on standby.

As for replacing everything with fluorescents, another great idea. Probably pay for itself inside of six months...

But yeah, deregulation SURE DID HELP THE CONSUMERS...

Sheesh.

Slavearm, I feel for you, man. I really, really do...

$902...OUCH

Swamp cooler going in this week

Cost- $2500, completely installed, which at this rate is what my next SCE bill will be!

I had the AC guy meter the temps coming from my AC vents while air was on thinking maybe ducting had leak, etc. Air temps from vents were 59-61 degrees depending on location in house. I then had him check temp from light fixture, 2X250 MH and 2X65 PC.

142 degrees!!

The swap cooler at my shop cost me almost $290.00 in July to run.

SteveU
so,your power bill for july was $290? or did you isolate charges from swamp cooler alone at $290. Who is your power company? Wasn't July the humid month where your swamp cooler wouldn't be useful?

Just a note for those with want to buy a swamp coolers. They work well in our desert like SoCal environment however when the we have a high humidity heat wave like the weeklong heatwave last month then the swamp coolers are not that efficient. They work best in dry enviroments. Swamp coolers are popular in Phoenix but almost nonexistance in Miami.

I am in Palmdale, so very effective.

Also, AC guy explained that central air recirculates same air whereas swamp cooler brings in fresh while cracking windows pushes warmer air out. Hopefully this means that in my bedroom where my lights are putting out 142 degree heat, I can pull that air out while replacing with cooler air. My bedroom has not been below 87 degrees for a month plus!

My swamp cooler runs on 220v, pump and motor. Motor is 7.5 amp so that's 1650W. 220 or 110 don't matter. 7.5 amp 220 = 15 amp 110. That's a lot of juice. It's old so I should look at replacing it but these bill saving options all cost money and all of that's going towards paying the sky high bills. Until they can get the pay back on these upgrades in line with my life expectancy I just have to keep what I have.

Last month bill was about $600, this month I feel lucky, it's ONLY $450.

Funny thing is... in the last 3 months I have:

1. I replaced all my lights in the house to energy saving crap lighting
2. replaced my normal malibu lights with solar units
3. downgraded my pool pump to a smaller unit
4. switched to a super efficient skimmer
5. swapped out 3 mag pumps (9,12,18) and 2-Seios for a single panworld 50px-x and two Tunze 6100 (about 120W savings there), 6. changed my sump lighting scheme (shaved about 10w there)
7. Added a large sump fan so my chiller runs on the hottest days only 20 minutes every 3 hours. (love that ACIII logging)
8. Killed the second refrigerator
9. Added a powerstrip to all the guest rooms that turns everything OFF when there are no guests in the house
10. Changed the blower in my AC unit for a more efficient version
11. Added Thicker Curtains to all sunny facing rooms that remain closed.

And still my bill is this high. Why is SCE so much more expensive than every other Electric company in the whole dang US? Can you tell me that?

F-U SCE F-U.

I got my bill a few days ago and to my suprise I saved $100 on my bill. Since it got cooler, I just open the windows and run a fan instead of using the central air.
