I'll save 99% of you out there in Cali. 50% on your next months electric bill IF you want to play along. I did it here and am already saving AT LEAST 50% on my electric bill AND you don't have to get rid of anything. Just follow this link and it will tell you what can be done. I'm not selling anything and NO it's not a link to an advertisement. It's a link to your own electric company's web site BUT they won't tell you it's there. It wouldn't be in their best interest to let you in on their secret. I had to call my electric company several times to get the full low down on the deal and to make sure I knew what I was doing BEFORE I signed up for it and had them install it for me. I'll wait to post the link until I get some type of positive responses from you guys. I'm in Indiana and I will only pay approx. $80 in the next full billing cycle. I just had this installed on the 3rd so I can't post a one months bill on this yet. It took literally 10 seconds for it to be installed too. What you do with your money and your electric bill is up to you. I'm not telling you to do anything at all, it's up to you.
How about instead of all this secrecey about it you just tell it what it does?
Is it the device where it allowes the electric company to turn off your a/c during certain times of peak usage?
Or does it change your billing cycle to a time dependent cycle (i.e. peak times cost more, nights are cheaper)?

dpstrand hit it on the head but like I do, you would have to work on 2nd shift or switch all your lights to Off Peak hours and also do your dishes, wash, dryer, etc. mostly at night. I have 2100 watts of lights on my tanks, I have been working 2nd shift for 7 years, I now do my clothes, dishes and have all my lights on at night. It is the Time Of Use plan where they put in a different meter which keeps track of your useage and charges you so much less for Off Peak use. I am now paying $0.019 for Off Peak KWH compared to $0.119 per KWH useage during the On Peak hours. Normal useage here was 7 cents per the first 200, 6 cents per the next 300 and then 5 cents per each additional KWH. That came out to 2200 kwh for $143 or so for me the last couple of months compared to now which will be about $80 like I said before.

I have researched the "time of use" plan, and had one of their technician estimate my savings if I enrolled in the plan. Based on my average KWH, they said I would have to refrain using any appliance in the house during the day. The fridge would be the only exception. So, if there is someone in the house, this just would not work. no A/C, no TV, no microwave ? :lol2:
But I was disgusted when they said this would only save me $30 a month.
If anyone who uses SCE is enrolled in this plan, and is benefiting from its savings, I really would like to know. Maybe the tech I talked to was not having a good day or something.

That is absolutely not true. I am using my TV, my A/C part of the day when it's hot out and my computer and doing other odds and ends that use electricity from when I get up at 11:00am until I leave at 3:00pm for work. The A/C will use about 1kwh every 20-30 minutes or so. The others like the TV, the computer, ceiling fan, lights in the kitchen don't even add up to maybe 1kwh per day or so. There is a formula that you can use to add up kwh used per month or day based on wattage and how much you use the item over a period of time.
Watts multiplied by hrs. used divided by 1000= KW/day
Multiply by 30 days gives you total KWHs used in month.

Since you are out of state, I am guessing you're not a SCE customer, lucky you. Your electrical co. may have different guidelines in addition to a much better rate.

I had to wait 2 weeks after the initial request, until I got in touch with a technician from SCE, who looked into my average monthly KWH usage. Then he gave me all these caveats over the phone. The KWH allowance for peak usage is dismal. There is no posted rate or savings %. It almost seems they take it on a case by case scenario, which is real st**id
Like I said, I wonder if any SCE customer enrolled in this plan is benefiting from its savings. Chances are, I did not get the right info from the the tech I talked to.
