DUDE I JUST LOST NEMO TO A F**KIN POWERHEAD!!!! *** IS WRONG WITH MY STUPID POWERHEADS!!!!!!!! HES MY THIRD FISH TO POWERHEADS....HE WAS MY FRICKEN FAVORITE TOO.....Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y DO I KEEP LOSING FISH TO THESE STUPID FRICKEN POWERHEADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

are you using the strainers on the maxi-jets? I have run three of them in my tank before and never had a fish get sucked into one. As another person posted in the thread usually a strong healthy fish has the capability of out-swimming the pull of a powerhead. Maybe the strainers on the maxi-jets slow down the pull a little bit or break it apart and not cause such a direct pull of water into it.

Yeah the strainers spread the pull from the input of the pump. if they are not on you will lose fish. Also I got a clown sucked to a pump and after I turned off the pump he swam away and is doing well today.

he was in there for a little while ...i heard the pump straining but i couldnt tell where it was coming from ..i thought it was from my filter so he was prolly in there for at least 15 minutes...cause i kinda ignored the noise (idiot!)....i think im just gonna say F it and go get like 3 koralia 2's maybe 3's idk

I'd get 2's, I have my return pump which is about 1000gph into the display tank and two korilia 2's on my 110 and it is plenty of flow for my softies/lps.

First off you need screens. You must have screens on those jets. Not only will fish get sucked in there, but inverts such as little star fish and snails.
Secondly dead fish will migrate to inlets, and sick fish that can't control themselves will end up there as well. It is possible the fish didn't just get stuck there, but were sick before they got there. Check you water parameters carefully. Post your water parameters along with what tools you used to check them.
We all go through rough things with our tanks. Just learn from your past and keep moving forward.

Not only put the shield on them, put the sponge over that. Just have more than one sponge and keep cleaning and exchanging them. Powerheads are notorious and fish follow currents.

litttle hard to put a big sponge over the mod

Not the mod but the intake. They shouldn't get caught to the mod but it is possible.

I thought it fit over the output and worked like an educator and pulled water in through the sides. So if a MJ 1200 pushes 285 gph and the mod gives you a total of say 1200 gph then 1000 gph is spread around the entire mod. You could rubber band a filter pad for an old whisper filter cut to surround the mod opening. This would be cheep and give the fish a chance to get off the pump. I still don't get how this many fish are getting stuck on these. I have a closed loop and it pulls 1200 gph with only a strainer covering the input. Now I did have a fish get caught and I am not sure how long he was there but he is fine. I have since moved the input so it is not as close to places where the fish actually swim.

Al, next time you are in premium aquatics ask Charlie if you can check out one of the mod kits and/or take a look at this website. The in and out are right next to each other in that one black cylinder. Difficult to do much about it and regardless of what you do it will be ugly for sure.
