I just wanted to know if there was something wrong with my clam. Should I be worried because the mantle looks this way:

Anyones help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Looks like Pinched Mantle. Prepare a freshwater bath that matches your tank's temp and PH, and dip the clam for 25-30 minutes.

I'd wait a bit longer before doing anything drastic like that. Looks like he's just pulling in the mantle a bit from a little irritation. Pinched mantle? Could be but I'd wait a bit.

A FW bath is hardly drastic for clams. Mildly stressful...sure. One thing's for sure, Pinched Mantle is 100% fatal if left untreated.

The two areas in your pic where the mantle has folded over would be considered a symptom of Pinched Mantle. If it continues, dip it as soon as you can. If you have other clams, you may want to dip them as well.

Good luck!:)

I would not wait--do the FWD. Use ro/di and adjust for temp (no need to adjust ph). A powerhead and a small heater in a bucket with ro/di is all you need. Place him in the bucket and use the powerhead to push water around the mantle edge and then leave him in the water for a total of 15-20 min. I am in no way a clam expert or a PM expert, but I have delt with the ccondition and am having some sucess. Make sure your tank water quality is in perfect condition, you have plenty of light and no excess iron in the tank (phosban (and other phosphate absorbers) has been said to leech iron into the water. Add UV if possible (pm is caused by a protozoan)

Good Luck

I have saved one (knock on wood) and lost one to PM
You may have to FWD more than once

Does the iron from phosban CAUSE PM or does the iron released prevent it from curing? I've never heard of taking out phospate absorbers....???
