Very, very sorry for you loss Hugo, i can't even begin to imagine what you are going thru.

Some areas here in NYC just got over a 9 day black out due to power loss because of Con Edison.

I wish you the best and hope you will rebuild one day,
Steven

Let's all engage in a moment of silence for SNIPERSPS's tragic loss.

Anyone here live in Queens, New York?! They just got their power back after a full week with no power!

Check with your homeowners insurance provider - you never know, you may be able to make a claim.

Wow that really sucks.
I think anyone with a tank even close to half of this "investment" should have a serious backup plan for emergencies such as a power loss.

Sorry for your loss bro.

we have hurricanes here in florida an I bought a generator strictly for the tank. too much invested in tank to take a chance. i think your wizzing up a rope as far as a lawsuit.. but Im no attorney

home owners MAY be able to help. but those one of a kind corals like you r pink lemonade?? that was a cash cow. almost irreplaceable.. unbelievable

Wow...I am very sorry for your loss Hugo. I know what I'll be doing tonight...moving my UPS from my computer to my tank. Does anyone know exactly what is needed for a tank to run at bare minimum? Say for instance, would my return pump and chiller suffice to keep my tank alive during the summer months?

Hugo,
Huge loss for all of us, but incredibly difficult loss for you. I figure things happen for a reason, who the heck knows why but....Rebuild, bigger, stronger, faster growing.

I live to far to be of any help in the moment but when you need frags I am happy to pass on anything you might want. I have a nice little collection, some of your stuff as well so let me know. I am sure there will be tons of offers from others as well to get back all of your prized corals. The fish are another story, so sad. Hang in there and focus on the rebuild, get yourself pumped for what will be, don't dwell on what was (at least as much as you can).

I am sorry for your loss Hugo. Words cannot describe the feeling... I have seen pictures of your tank before and reading this thread is even painful for me.

I hope that you should be able to get frags of the coral frags you have given/ sold to people in order to get some of your original corals back. If you want frags of any of my stuff let me know and I'd be honored to help get you back going.

I was actually looking for a back up battery at Home Depot the day before yesterday. I heard they have a battery that can power up to 250 watts for 30 minutes or something. Although, this does not help against power being out for days...

Take care,

Gerry

that is gone... aw man..

i wish you had posed that your power was out.. i have a stable system and would have housed your corals for you for a few days... this invitation go out to everyone.. we all face total losses with blackouts, if someone has lost power for more than 24 post about it here and hopefully those people who still have power and established (sps) tanks can step up and save the corals.

i dont know if you can sue but good luck with everything..

oooo bebo with this photo u made my heart in tears again i couldnt maintain but started to cry people say why i cry bbecause its just corals that die and money that waste but for me it was part of my life because i already had it for about 5 years and i struggled many many times with it infections, flatworms, nudi brach, red bugs, and all the ones for today also every year i would take my tank with the tempetures with no problem and a month back i had some problems with my kh and i went forward with it and did not give up and thats why i say it was part of my life cause i really enjoyed this hobby and for all mydreams to be lost from one day to another is REALLY SUCKS im really thankful for those who will help in getting some corals back cause after i talked to greg carrol i decided i will not quit so againb i will look forward and not sit down.
something really starng was that wednesday in the morning evry corals were fine but becaus ei had approx. 40 fish and they all died for which i was able to take out of the water so the rest contaminated the water and that is why the corals started to die also that same morning i was working with a generator but it did not help much so like i said if you want to sell me or give me a fragment of my corals i really appreciate it
thank you
hugo

Wow! This is a sad day for socal people....Everyone needs to make sure they have a battery backup and some of those battery powered air pumps...Anyone know where to get these things for good prices?

Your tank is one of the few tanks that I really wanted to check out Hugo. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I would be really traumatized if I lost everything in my tank as well...and mine is not even close to the beauty and size of yours. I have lost some corals this summer due to heat and it's heart stabbing. I also lost a fish last night that I've had since I started up the tank. In this hobby where everything is "alive" it just gets more emotional because these are live creatures. Again sorry for your loss I'm sure you will be up again in no time. And just curious.....did you cold water system make it? =(

I spoke w/ Hugo this morning. All I can say is that he is devastated. Many people cannot relate to the time and energy that he put into this tank. How it happened and what he should have done to avoid such a catastrophe is a moot point now. The whole issue makes sense to me because by the time he realized that the power would not be restored as promised, it was too late to help with the limited amount of resources that he had. The large bioload began to die and I'm sure the Nitrite & Ammonia took care of the rest. The important thing is that we will all learn a lesson from this disaster!

Hugo's tank will be remembered, at least until his rebuilt reef surpasses the glory of the last one. Good luck to you Hugo on the rebuild.

OMG! I am so sorry to hear about this Hugo! If I can do anything to help, just let me know bro.. I went out and bought an 8000kw Generator for the store also and hope i dont ever have to use that beast. I thought you had a generator at home? Anyhow, it sall too late now.. but like i said, if you need any help, just let me know bro.. we are all here for you.

My deepest sympathies, Hugo:(

If John sends some stuff down to you, I'll be sure to include some of my frags;)

Hugo

Hugo:

Im a fairly new person to the whole saltwater hobby. 1.5 years and I have 2 55 gallon tanks. Im still excited about it.

I have shown pictures of your tank to more people telling them
" this is what I want to have someday " I have scrapped and saved to buy halides and reactors and all the stuff needed all the while thinking about beautiful things I could keep. Well I have only 3 sps corals now I am just starting. You can start over also and it sounds like everyone will be sending corals your way so you have a good start already. Everything looks sad today but time has a way of healing. I know what you meen when you say the hobby is a part of your life. I feel the same way.

Sorry Hugo...really

Stay off your chin
Jay

Sad to say they are probably covered in the fine print. If my tank ever looks like yours did I think I am going to get it covered on my insurance just like my TV.

Sorry to hear that sniper....totm too man that flat *** blows....as to "suing" them...

no...it varies between states but i am almost 100% sure you have no legal recourse....when you signed up for their power they never made the committment to keep power from going out for your aquarium...sorry man hate to be the bearer..........

I dont understand why...when you have so much money and more imporatantly time and effort wrapped up in your beuatiful tank that you didnt have a generator or battery back up. There are also plenty of places you can rent generators for a few days if you dont want to buy one.....i would seriously consider before restocking (because i know your not getting out) investing in a generator(just get one that has the W rated to how many W you have on your tank)

Once again i am so sorry....could you save anything(after a couple days i doubt) in the way of frags or anything?
