I'm experiencing a problem where I cannot keep my clown fish alive for more than 1-2 months. I have a hippo blue tang, yellow tang, several chromis, cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, some corals and a cleaner crew that are all very healthy and have been so since I got them. But my clowns always go into a slow decline that ultimately ends in death. I did have one clown that died very quickly of what I suspect was brooklynella because of the white slime I saw suddenly develop. But the rest had no white spots or signs of parasites, they just slowly stop eating over the days, go lethargic and eventually die. The process takes weeks or even a couple months. Upon death's door, they do begin to breath heavily, show the gills, but I don't see any physical signs of lesions, slime or parasites.
Anyone have any ideas why? I suspect I have some sort of disease that targets clowns but don't know what. I'm afraid that if quarantine the clowns into health, they will just die later because whatever is in the main tank will just attack it again. Its frustrating because these fish are already a hardy species and it pains me to see them die. My parameters are all good. Again I suspect its a species targeting disease because all my other fish and critters are very healthy and active.
