Ooh La La!!! Sheer beauty!

Moonpod: yep. Various spotlight colored bulbs are used in some Japanese tanks I've seen. That may explain the color (in my mind, at least :D ) on the pink Stylophora, too.

That was pretty interesting, thanks for sharing it here.

I'd love to hear more about what the red T5 is doing or perhaps see pictures of the tank with it off and on.

wovwarlord,
[welcome]

I too would like to know more about the red lighting, I've got room in my hood!:p

Rock Anemone:D

Can you get the red spectrum bulbs (VHO, T5, halide, etc) in the US without shipping from over seas? I would love to add a red bulb to my tank.

It certainly cant hurt. :D

The Stylo & a few of the other pieces looked sweet in the before pic. I really don't see any color changes in the old pieces. The brown softies were replaced by some more very nice colored acros.
Nice setup & composition.

I'm curious about the red t5's also.

For those that are interested in the T5 Red:

Osram Coloured lamps
LUMILUX T5 HE and HO in Red (60), Green (66) and Blue (67) provide coloured accent lighting and are particularly suitable for modern RGB applications for coloured effect lighting.

- Light colours 60 (red), 66 (green) and 67 (blue)
- In HE (14 W to 35 W) and HO (24 W to 80 W) versions
- Average life of 10,000 hours

Now the question is... is the Red T5 there to produce a color accent or to provide true photosynthesis that these corals can use? Also, how far would a red T5 penetrate since it does have the lowest range of penetration through water?

as i recall correctly, the red spectrum is used by plants for photosynthesis. Usually people who grow foods/veggies under artifical lighting use HPS lamps which tend to burn more in the red spectrum. I have wondered if that spectrum of light would help corals in a captive environment.

Very nice tank indeed! I would like to hear more about his calcium reactor. One thing I found interesting was the media manufacturer's statement about how a calcium reactor should only be used to add calcium and alkalinity because a lot of the other trace elements are either not bound in the skeleton or else are bound too strong to be released by low PH. I was always under the assumption that we were adding a lot of trace elements by dissolving media in a calcium reactor.

reefgeek.com is getting some red t5hos in. Apparently the same price as regular GE bulbs (12 bux or something)

Amazing tank.
I think the placement of the corals is part of what makes the colors appear so stunning, not photoshop or zeo. Anyone who knows a little color theory can see that the cool and warm colored corals are staggered, which really highlights the contrast in colors. Just lovely!

amazing tank

amazing tank

very nice tank! Anyone know why he keeps his ALK so low? Do all you Z guts try to keep your alk that low? Invincible, DR Mac? If so why? and how?
