Oops - Pistol Shrimp and Cleaner Shrimp

So I was at Sherman tank and saw a pistol shrimp and watchman goby pair. It was the coolest thing that I ever saw and I bought them without even asking any questions other than what should I feed them. Now it appears that I better keep the shrimp full and or my cleaner shrimp better watch his back after seeing this vid on Youtube. HOLY COW this shrimp is straight gangster.

Not a very responsible move on my part. At least I did not buy the Yellow tang, but I wanted to:)

Honestly did not think that the pistol shrimp had the goods.

Has anyone else kept these two species with or without complications?

Thanks for looking

We have a tiger pistol and a banded prawn goby in a 72 bowfront reef for several years, with cleaner shrimp (even had them breeding) and snails fish etc. We have never seen it attack anything, although we hear it clicking sometimes when it is below the sand. We do feed meaty foods daily, mostly frozen, but like you, we love the pair.
I have heard of a very large pistol breaking the glass on a 34 gallon tank once at a LFS

Its a myth just like a mantis would crack its own tank im not saying that they cant but most likely wont happen

Search youtube for hatching live brine or a few LFS sell live brine until you get things going. Have you tried frozen already?

I too have a tiger piston shrimp/goby pair with a cleaner shrimp. No problem at all. I read that there are 2 kinds of pistol shrimps and one kind is more aggressive than the other.

Dave and Monica - I am feeding frozen yes. I have Mysis and some H2O life Spurilina Brine Mysis mix. The Goby is eating well- have not seen the Shrimp but you can tell that he is busy becasue the tank is cloundy with find sand

I really hope i dont come home to 37 gallons of water on the ground someday.

The only time my pistol shrimp has snapped is if some dummy came to close to his cave. And that was only because he didn't have a goby with him.
From what I remember, pistol shrimp don't see very well, that's why they like to cohabitate with a goby. The goby keeps an eye out for intruders and warns the shrimp by whisking his tail at the shrimp as he is bulldozing.
I think that if you have a symbiotic goby or goby pair with the shrimp, your other inhabitants will be safe.
