Hey guys guy’s got stuck with this lost dog, she has a tag form NYS Agricultural & Markets I emailed them and left messages no one gets back, tried using tag as telephone # in area code, 631, 516 and Albany 518 (I get a modem tone) no one claims to have lost a dog.

Have no clue what to do next, don’t want to take it to the pound
and already have one.

Any ideas? Would any of you like to take her?
It is very playful, friendly and so far appears to be house trained.

Check the local papers for "missing dog" ads. You could also take it to a vet that participates in one of the microchip programs. If she's been chipped' then the owner will be tracked down and notified. If not... let me ask the wife ;)

Called the vet, they can't help because there is no vet tag, they told me to try calling the town of Brookhaven.

Cute puppy :) From the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets:

Local Dog Control Services
Every licensing town, city or village must have a Dog Control Officer (DCO) and municipal shelter services. The DCO and shelter service enforces both State and any local dog laws and ordinances. Further, it is the DCO’s responsibility to pick up lost and stray dogs and humanely care for them until they can be reunited with their owners.

If your dog is lost or you find a lost dog, immediately contact your local DCO or shelter. Owners should seek lost unidentified dogs at the municipal shelter.

If a dog is lost but identified with a NYS identification tag, the DCO will contact the NYS Dept. of Agriculture and Markets to trace the dog tag to the owner.

I will do that, one of the vets I called also gave me that #.
It just brakes my heart knowing what happens to most of these lost dogs, when owners don't pick them up :(
Will pass buy a vet first to see if he has any chip.

Well, what you can do is just give them the tracking # so they can track down the owner. This dog is definitely owned by someone--
