Can you take a pic of the beckett.

Rgibson, (and others) I took my ball insert out after having problems with it plugging so easily. I am not sure what was going on that was causing the problem but I grew tired of it. I noticed that the bubbles almost completely stopped, so I messed with the ball a little, cut wedges to help debris pass, reduce the size, etc., just to reduce the potential for blockage. None of it worked, it all reduced the effectiveness. BTW I used a VERY NOISY Iwaki 35 then a 70 RLT as my skimmer pump.

I ended up removing the ball insert completely and put an OceanRunner 3700 to just recirculate the water within the skimmer and add bubbles.

All in all I am a little disappointed in the beckett, especially in the long run. I could have done it all with a much smaller pump and a lot less headache. Having said all of that, I am not giving up on the beckett . . .yet.

The w

Another difference I see is that the beckett housing is completely empty of water. When running with the insert in, water leaks out through the seams in the beckett. The water level in the housing then fills up to the air holes where the water is sucked back into the beckett.

Now that I run without the insert, the water doesnt squirt out, and the vacuum created is obviously sucking IN through the seams near the bottom, and all the water was sucked out.

It sounds like you dont have your beckett nozzle set up correctly.

Is this the same mods that the Korallen Zucht revolution skimmers that are being sold right now? There's a few pics of it with tiny holes on a shorten beckett.

The Korallen skimmer has done away with the beckett holder and replace it with a 1 1/2 standard bulkhead fitting on top of that thay put the beckett under water,it looks like a good idea and for a skimmer of that size with one beckett ,i think we will see more becketts skimmer builders making a change like the Korallen.

That is straight up a mod beckett injector like the ones shown here last year. They drilled some extra holes in a regular beckett injector and trimmed off some of it so it didn't stick out as far. They still have a housing which is black on the inside of the skimmer which they run the airline to. The principle is exactly the same and was talked about here a long time ago.

Funniest thing is I thought they were all about using needlewheels.

Paul could you fine the thread from last year?

, go back to the first page of this thread and read on. All the pictures and math are right here, lol.

I looked at a few videos of it and the performance doesn't look as good as some of the becketts being made here. The bubbles look like they get big a little too early. But its made in Germany so people will say its better and new technology.

Pretty easy to test- Drill more holes in a Beckett and compare.

I've done the same, including drilling the center piece. All my testing came up with no measurable change in results at best, and worse performance in many cases.

But it's good to experiment- drill away!

I did the mod to one of my two becketts.

I would just swap them out when it was time for cleaning.

I never saw a measurable difference.

inside out or outside in?

inside out or outside in?

How is everyone drilling there becketts...

From the outside in out inside out? It would seem that if you drilled from the outside in you could keep your hole pattern even with the line thats centered on the original hole but may wonder from where there suposed to be on the inside...Any thoughts before I wreck my 1st attemp at modifieing?

I did mine from inside to out.
Got several extra Becketts just because.

It's real easy to drill because the material is so soft.

Re: inside out or outside in?

I see I'm joining this thread a little late in the game but I just bought my 1st real skimmer and it's a beckett, It has a 1" intake and a 1.5" gate valve on the 6x10x8" tall box the tube is 4.5x8" tall to the collection cup coupleing. I'm useing a danner mag7 to power it and I only get about 1" of foam above my water line in the bubble tube both before and after the mod. Do you think it's my pump and if so what would you power it with on a $200.00 buget??
P.S. The intake is about 16" above the water line to the mag7 in my sump...so 16" of head.

I have a 10000lph (2600gph) pump rated at a max head of 4.5M (15 foot) connected to a largish dual Beckett skimmer. It actually works better with only one injector connected. When I hook both up I have to set the water level higher. In fact, the water level is just below the riser tube with one connected and about one inch above the bottom of the riser tube with 2 connected. I struggle to get much skimmate out of this skimmer no matter what I do.

Is my pump underpowered? What size holes and how many should I try in this case?

Well I got the mod working with 24 1.5 mm holes and the result is identical to before. It achieved nothing. I will try 2mm holes for the next one.

I have a MRC-2 skimmer and a Blueline 55HD pump. I think i will get get a extra beckette and give this a try.
