Optimum Cupramine dosage and length

I actually use 2 aquaclears on my QT, both with sponges and ceramic media. I can't tell you why my QT does better with LR...maybe the bacteria, maybe the algae (which BTW grows no matter what med I use), maybe something else... it just does.

IMO, sponge filters, seeded for several weeks in a high flow area of the DT are ideal media for bio-filtration in a QT. LR or substrate should be avoided because they absorb and release copper; making testing difficult. The sponges have more surface area fir aerobic bacteria too, I think. LR helps with nitrate; but that isn't an issue with fish.

I wish I had time to seed a large sponge. See below for explanations

Why do you need live rock for infiltration? That's why there are sponge and hob filters. Use seeded material or start from bottled sorce, preferably Instant ocean bio spira or Dr. Tims.

I have had a completely sterile tank seeded with dr tims cycling for a period of 8 weeks or so. During that time, I have been doing the tank transfer method. The last addition was the Achilles, which underwent the same treatment. Yesterday I saw what I thought was an ich spot on the chevron. I acquired the Achilles 5 months ago with ich and with ttm, he has been completely clear. I'm not sure what went wrong and I'm not completely sure that it was ich on the
Chevron, but I'm planning ahead for the worst. If it is ich, I won't be able to seed a sponge filter with enough bacteria in time. At this point the most sure method is copper- I sure don't want to do the fallow period again!

Dt has 8 weeks or so left on fallow period.

I really wonder about user error with CU because I put a lot of fish through it in the last few months. Fish that are referred to as sensitive to it. I often am just over & under what I would call .5 but haven't seen any issues from it. Yet those same fish treated with prazi get sluggish & almost totally stop eating.

Can you be specific as to what fish?

Two weeks isn't even 1 complete ich life-cycle; just food for thought.
I agree with your comments on hypo, I just don't consider it an option anymore. (An option for folks asking for advice, personally, I haven't used it in many years.)
Oops not 2 weeks, I wrote...
I like 2 say...
I meant I like to say......I do 4 weeks...mostly tangs will go 6 weeks...
Ha ha ha...
I use a permanent system. With a marineland 350, with it's bio wheels, and lots of ceramics in the back...I recently upgraded to a 40 breeder, I was using a 10 gallon, that served me well, but had the limitation of space..
