ORA And Species

Frankenpora have you seen the red planet in person? It's nothing like a millipora at all, It probably is like most say acropora hyacinthus.

Yes, I've had one for a while now, It's hard to ID a frag.
I think that you have a good idea in trying to get ID's on ORA's
You just got me strated when you kept saying "I've posted this
on x number of forums" and so on.
I want to know what they are myself.

This hyacinthas thing is the perfect example.
I have roughly 15 Milli's.
I have the Red Planet siting right next to a couple of them.
The coralite structure is virtually identical.

Good luck, sorry for the derail.

Frakenpora, it's all good and the first mention of other forums wasn't directed at you, in any way.

As for the Red Planet, I too was under the impression that it was a Milli, until I saw one that'd grown out and was Tabling. After seeing that one in person, I started doing some research and have now found a lot of "grown up" Red Planets and they're all taking a tabling growth form.

As a frag, before a significant growth pattern has been established, it's very hard to get proper IDs. I started this thread in hopes that others, who might have some "grown up" ORA corals, can help out.

For me, it would be a great help to know that a certain coral frag will, eventually, grow in a Tabling form, as apposed to Branching or Bushy. Now I have a better idea where to permanently place my Red Planet.

Figured it'd been almost a year, since I started this thread, so it was time for a BUMP!!

Above, is a partial list of ORA Corals, with some good guesses, on possible species ID.

Thanks again for putting this list together!

Here are a couple of additions:
ORA Birds of Paradise: Seriatopora caliendrum (Diver's Den lists it as such)
ORA Pearlberry: Acropora deswali (probable ID by folks on RC)

red planet is not A. milli different coral for sure.

IMO its A.Hiacynthus ( looks like a milli or even a prostrata as a frag) very similar to ATL mirabilis although it can retain its green when grown at mid to lower areas in your tank.
