ORA Brown Planet

looking good. waiting for mine to color back up too

Lookin nice!!

Thanks!

Here is a top down shot to show a different angle of the growth. My first time shooting top down and I don't have any viewing window or anything, had to block the light glare with my hand. Anyways, here it is (just 1 blue + and 1 purple + bulb on):

I'm super envoius of you guys that have colorful RP. Mine was just starting to color up nice reds and green base, then I glued it permanently to a spot on a rock that would make is a centerpiece in my DT...and the stupid thing just turned pinkish tan. the PE is really weak too. I'm kinda stumpped here as to why...it's in almost the same spot it was before...and definatly the same distance from the light. So I don't know why it's so unhappy. The other corals are all growing and thriving really well...and PE is great everywhere else...and not other corals around to bother it. Like I said it was put where it is to be a prominant piece of coral. But even though it's grown a nice healthy (large diameter) base, the color is absent. It seems to be less healthy now, so should I risk moving it to a more shaded space...or will that stress it too much? If I do I would have to break off a piece and let the base continue to grow pinkish-tan where it is on the rock. :(

I'll try to get a picture up soon to give you an example.

I wish I knew what to tell you Dave, but I'm still quite new at this. It would seem if it was gaining color in that spot at one point, then the lighting was probably good there. I would explore other things before moving it, maybe flow or water quality or maybe you changed something in your setup recently?

sadly the only thing I've done that's really new is add more frags to the tank. But none are near that frags position....like I said I wanted the RP to become a show piece.

I think I may try scraping the tips (pruning...not fragging) of the coral to see if I can stimulate growth. maybe that will get me out of this slump.

Enjoyed this thread, and your red planet looks like it is well on it's way to becoming a very nice colony.

This coral amazes me as to the different color variations I have seen for it.

I had a nice colony, but it was more of a teal green with red polyps. Sadly though, I lost it due to a tank crash back in Jan. But I do have another frag growing, and it doesn't have the same coloration as my first one.

Here's a pic of my first red planet:

Wow those are amazing colors on that one!

i like the red/white coloration over the red/green. i have heard that placing them in higher lighting is was u need for the red/white color. do yo guys think that a 6 bulb 5 is enough to get this? Israel, what color base are u getting and what kind of lighting do you have it under?

So far all the vertical growth is staying red and white, have some green in the encrusting area. Its under 4 t5's

Nice development and a nice coral.

I just wondered if this also could be a RP? (sorry for stealing your thread).

Another similar RP frag:

No problem, I don't mind people posting in this thread. I wish I could help you with the id, but I don't think I have enough experience to really tell you, hopefully someone else will pop in and let you know. Its a nice piece though!
