from now on you shall be known as Dr. Dave! Nice save! Can you save mine? lol

Seriously, I am new to SPS. How do you know if an SPS is dead? I have a few, including this Pearberry that don't look very good right now....is there hope?

their is always hope. Have you check your water paramaters? Their could be something to high or low. And I have seen worst things come back from the brink before.

High Alk and Low Ca a few weeks ago. I have stabilized now...hoping things will look up from here. I do see some polyps but they are fully contracted. It was SOOOO pretty when I bought it!

You'll know when it's dead ... Just a skeleton left.

Yours lost color ... could be stress, lights, parameters.
I have a frag that I almost lost with an alk spike. IT was a pretty blue and yellow, but it's growing back now all brownish red. I see the tips of the coralites just starting to change back to blue.

I had mine in a good flow area, but for some reason the encrsuted part on the plug lost all of its polyp extension. Then that encrusted part turned brown and now it is even white/dean in some areas on the plug. The rest of the coral has polyp extension but the color is not as nice as it used to be. Any ideas, I dont have aefw??? I was using Catalina natrual seawater up until a month ago (now using TMPR) and my alk was a consistent 7. It did fall down to around 6.5 so I am slowly bring that back up. Calcium is 420

chrishet,

your coral looks like a few i had once. my parameters were spot on, then i figured out that my limpets/scutus were running out of algae and decided to start taking flesh off of my sps. if you have anything that looks like this, get rid of it

the sea slug looking thing

Nothing like that in my tank but I do have a bunch of stomatella snails...and no algae to speak of....could they be munching my SPS? I've never seen them on my corals but they only come out at night.

i researched them a little bit, from what i found i didn't find anyone saying they are harmful. i would keep a close eye on them at night, if they are crawling on your coral, they are most likely eating it.

Ok folks.. has anyone gotten an ID on this coral?

In Canada, we can't get ORA corals, but I have something that is very similar to the ORA Pearberry and need an ID...
