^ it can really look quite different based on the lighting... looks really healthy though :0

and stable alkalinity. I dialed in a few things and increased the frequency of my water changes and mine looks incredible. Before it was average at best.

Mine is still pretty small but growing quick... it's definatly one of my favorites! :)

Mine needs help! Been in the tank since mid June. Here is a picture from July 13th, after this shot I moved it to the bottom of the tank. At this time it had very little polyp extension and a slight bleaching.

Here is a shot from today. I just moved it off the bottom for the picture. I havent seen any polyp extension for a week and it looks more bleached to me.

Ammonia 0
Nitrates undetectable
Phosphates undetectable
Mag 1380
Calcium 430
Temp 79.6
Salinity 1.026 refractometer
Alk. 7.8 dkh

All other SPS looks fine and growing. I dose vodka/mb7 is why the Alk is lower end. Reef Crystals for salt with 10g weekly water changes. Also 1 drop of Lugols daily. Is this coral dead? Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Here is mine, iv had mine for about 6 months now and it has barley grown and bursted with growth like everyone elses that i know. All my other corals are growing and im not a noob with parameters but do you think that the coral tried encrusting straight down it lost all its energy because going straight down doesn't get alot of light?

If that coral is under only a 20,000K bulb, that could be why. Not much PAR available for the coral to grow. However, the encrusting is a good sign. Perhaps the colony will bust out soon.

John,

sometimes it just takes a while.. Your colony looks great, you're getting growth with good polyp extension. I think this coral will reach a tipping point soon and start really growing. Keep up the good work.

Nice color there aquariumclown.

If I may suggest, you could increase your shutterspeed and decrease your aperature / increase your fstop number to get a larger depth of field and more of your purple pearlberry in focus at once. Handholding with a 50mm you could probably go as slow as 1/30th-1/60 and certainly 1/100th.

Thanks, and for those who might question the color, that is the color as I see it with my naked eye, it's an amazing coral.

I had a tripod on this shot and I shot it at F3.2, yes it's a bit shallow, but I wasn't trying to capture the whole coral, it's more of the same 4 inches back where it blurred out anyway. But next time i set it up I'll try for a deeper dof.

From looking through this thread I wonder if I might have the biggest pearlberry to date. it's 4 inches plus. And growing at a nice pace.

ughh theres a pearlberry in a fish store by me thats like a foot by a foot wide, but nice try though hah its a nice colony for sure.
