ora roscoe's blue

I have a frag of roscoe's blue i purchased in feb. this year. i have put it at the top of my tank, middle, and bottom. it has good polyp extention and green color, but the growth tips are not blue. It has zero blue on it anywhere. I have 3 12k 250w halide's and 8 420 t5's. I use C-Balance and supplement with magnesium, iodine, and feed corals once a week. the system has been set up for about 3 1/2 years. Is there something i don't know about it or do i need to use a different supplement? Thanks

I keep my mini colony about 16-17 inches down in my tank under 250 watt Reeflux 12k's. It has really blue tips with a beige/light green base and light green polyps. Is your frag growing? It only has the blue when it is growing.

I got mine in Feb too. It's doubled in size and has nice color, blue. I have another Tenuis which is much lighter which came from Copps. The Roscoe's has a deep color and great polyp extension. I have it halfway down in my 90 gallon tank under Reeflux 12K 250 DE HQI in LumenBright reflectors.

I had it about 12 inches from the top of the water for 2 months and the light is an outer orbits fixture that sits on top of the tank. I just don't understand why everything else is growing fine and it's not. Everything else has great growth.

Does anyone have some pics of the Roscoes? I have a mini colony and would like to see how they are supposed to look like

i would post one of mine but its not what its supposed to look like. if you go to liveaquaria.com and search for ora roscoes blue they have a good pic of one.

Not the greatest pic but here's mine:

I love my Roscoe. It was the 2nd coral I ever got and is now about softball size with about 100 super blue tips. It is in the top 10" of my tank under 400w 20kK MHs and T5s.

Branches that are not growing from the tips won't have the bright blue color. Yours is probably adapting / encrusting and will most likely start shooting off new branches with blue tips. I've heard of people inducing the formation of new branches by fragging though just being patient may be your best option.

i hope it does something. i really like the way its supposed to look. what name brand bulb MH's are you using?

it's time for me to buy some bulbs and was thinking of going with phoenix, but i also want something that will have good growth. I like the reflux that are in there now but i like the color of the phoenix better.

I have one I bought in about Feb as well. I have it under T5's and it's pretty blue. So far the growth has been limited to encrusting the plug.

i would even settle for encrusting the plug. all i get out of mine is good polyp extension, but i guess thats better than nothing at all. just a little let down about it for now. finally got something that has nice color and i can't get the color out of it. hope it's just the bulbs. are there some good supplements besides the usual iodine, iodide, magnesium, and c-balance?

EVC. My Roscoe had good color under XMs as well.

Yes, the EVC lamps put out very good color! Thanks for mentioning them!

Thanks again,

EVC bulbs have excellent par as well. I had some light sensitive items recede somewhat when I swapped out my old XMs, even though I changed just one bulb at a time and went a week between bulb changes so the system had some transition time between two old bulbs and two new ones. Some items which had lost a bit of color colored back up nicely. Go EVC!
