Okay...so I was curious to know why these are so expensive. I do like them, but I do not understand what justifies them being so much per polyp. Do they have really slow growth rates or what?
This is the real answer, because they can. If you get a good looking coral, and make it popular, pretty soon it will become a fad coral if you charge alot for it.
I just cut the head off of one then I glued it to a plug to see how it would do, but I have never heard of them being so much, I paid I think $70 for a group of 4.
The Envy Orange PE is the one that goes for $300-$600. And from what Ive heard, they grow slower than any other zoa/paly. Envy Orange is a very rare zoa that very few people have, thats why they sell for so much.
Envy Orange and OPE are two totally seperate morphs. Most people think OPE's are just RPE with crappy color.
if you claim to have OPE's, you should put up a single picture with both your OPE and an RPE side by side (in the same picture) to show the difference.
i've yet to see ANYONE show a single picture with this proof who has claimed they have an OPE. not saying they dont exist...just never seen anyone back up their claims with comparative evidence.
i've been asking for proof for well over a year, still hasn't happened...
I can take a shot of the EO and "OPE" together when the lights come on tomorrow. I don't have any RPE in another tank with different lighting to compare the RPE and "OPE" to though. The "OPEs" were redder when I got them, but my supposedly 14k halide is much more like 10k and would probably fade any RPEs to orange I put in there.
The bottom polyp is the true Envy Orange, from Reef Envy...and YES they do not grow. Had the polyp a few months and have yet to see any sign of any growth.
