Orange Plate question

Sorry I didn't take a pic, I'll try my best to explain. I saw an Orange plate, fungia, today that looked like it was dividing into thirds. I thought they budded off little ones? There were 3 and they formed an odd pyramid, one on each side but none were perfect circles like a solo fungia. I'm wondering if it was a fungia species now

It could have been that it was cut off on those sides and grown in a weird formation. Or it could have been a tongue coral.
