Orange Shoulder Tang changing colors?

Look at this and please explain to me what the heck is going on.

I'm not sure on that one. But you can tell he is just starting to change. He will turn a brownish color. Will not have any yellow later. But will keep the orange stripe on the shoulder.
 
I don't know. I never had one. But I'm not sure he's supposed to be splothcy like that. What are you feeding him? What is the tank and it's parameters? What are you housing him with?

I have a peppermint shrimp that hangs in his cave.

Feeding Mysis green nori and purple algea tetra marine flake too.
 
+1 changing color. I've dealt with these a lot. Not only will it retain the orange "shoulder" but it may also develop a cool half-&-half look on the body. Also may get blue accents on distal parts of fins & body. Coloration will become more subtle, but I agree with Znut Reefer - very nice tangs. IMHO, one the more underrated tangs out there.
 
In my opinion the fish pictured is way too small to be changing colors yet. Maybe it's just the pic, but he looks like he is quite young/small.

I had one a few years back that was yellow until he was a good 5-6 inches. That one looks much smaller than that, either that or that snail is HUGE. Plus his 'shoulder' isn't even colored yet...

It looks to me like he's sick, but I'm no expert.

I've grown OS Tangs from juvi to adulthood but I've never seen this blotchy white/yellow coloration before. Your fish appears well fed. Do you have any more (earlier) pix of this fish?
It almost appears like some A. pyroferus is in it's blood...
 
I haven't ever seen anything like that. Was he ever all yellow? Did this come on slowly or quickly? Does he have any other symptoms, physically or behaviorally? As Gary Majchrzak said, your fish looks to be eating well and healthy aside from the splotchy coloration.
 
I havent ever seen that in a OST either, it could be a hybrid of some sort. It appears otherwise healthy, interesting. Keep us posted.
 
I'm an OSL lover too! Too big for a 6ft tank, so I have to wait until next setup. But I have heard nothing but good things about them!

So it's back to all yellow now? Cause mines is about 5 inches and haven't changed yet...but I do see it coming soon. Mines the king of the tank and I really enjoy his behavior. :bum:

Its back to being completely yellow. I started to mix in different sea weeds on the sea weed clip.


I go from green to purple everyother day.


The tang is about 3 inches and doest pretty well standing up to my 5 inch GBR clown. They all live peacefully

Cool, kind of odd that it was colored like it was.

Im not sure what spurned this white color either.


Three years and your fish hasnt changed colors? Thats really odd.

Any pics?
