Orange spotted Filefish and TTM

Everyone,

I am looking to pick up a pair of the gems. I know they are difficult to keep in terms of getting them to eat and wean them onto frozen,flake, and pellet foods.

With that being said, I would like to know if anyone has ever performed the TTM on them?

I have always performs the TTM on all my fish, and would like to do the same with this fish, but I am considering to place them straight into a QT and get them trained onto eating a variety of foods first. Then....once they are eating, perform the TTM on them later if Crypto presents itself.

For those who currently keep these fish, any info on them would be truly appreciated. I have already done searches here on RC, but just looking for some additional advice.

I have no experience with this particular fish, but with other finicky eaters like regal angels and copperband butterflies.
I would give them a formalin dip to clear them of eventually present velvet, brook, flukes and the like and then put them into an appropriate tank to get them eating before putting them through any more invasive and lengthy treatments.
With these kind of fish it is most important that you get them eating. You can always do ttm if they show symptoms of ich or when they are stabilized and you get ready to move them into their permanent home.

not sure what TTM is, but i previously had lots of success with these gorgeous fish using nutramar ova. It hasn't been available for more than a year as far as I know, and without it, personally I wouldn't try. I had them in an mostly nps and softies tank, where there was tons of food, but initially, it was always the only thing I could get them to eat. After though, they were pigs and would eat anything and everything!

I think its transferring a fish every 3rd day to sterile tank to eventually lose any ich.

Yes.... Diver's Den currently has them available. My last TTM with a difficult eating Anthias was successful, but lost them later on to Uronema in quarantine.

Needless to say I have to break down my QT to sterilize it. So I figured the TTM would give me some time to re establish my QT, get it cycled, and back up and running.

I have a few Acros I could sacrifice, but want to get this fish onto a variety of frozen foods and pellets as quick as possible. I have an auto fish feeder ready to go for frequent supplemental feeding.

I have read that the Nutramar OVA is a great for these fish, unfortunately the closest thing I have is frozen Cyclop eez. The Cyclops worked well for me in the past with the hard to feed anthias, so I am hoping that will work for the filefish as well.

That's why it is a good idea to include formalin baths into the TTM protocol for fresh fish.
Otherwise you will be wasting valuable treatment time to fight the least dangerous of all possible fish ectoparasites.
