Looked paler than the picture in the OP, but it could have been duller from stress. Also, it was priced at $69.99.

The picture in this thread is of juvenile coloration, actually. They dull out as they grow, sorry.

Wow, even nicer than I expected as an adult.. not dull at all. Those orange freckles are beee-utiful. Thnx for the picture

Tangerine orange freckles and beautiful horizontal crimson lined pattern doesnt equal less colorful but than again we cant all be blessed with parrotfish the color of the rainbow either ami.

I apologize to all with the google image I used, I haven't heard of this particular bristle tooth so my apologies, and like rorroreef said not everyone has a Quoyi!

thats because the one the OP posted and the regular striated tang are different species. My tang book says the original pic is striated cf ( colour variart ) and still needs to be proved a seperate species. They keep the lines as adults, i have a pic in the book with over 50 adults schooling, all over 8 inches with that coloration. In fact i also got one yesterday through our supplier ( same supplier as live aquaria DD ) priced at $75. I may take him home :)

LA's pic lists it as the cf.

There's a thread about these somewhere on this forum. It's juvi coloration, from what was said in that thread. And none of the pics I've seen of the colorful ones look like adults.

Not that this is unattractive:

I was not comparing to any parrotfish. If I came off as sounding condescending I certainly didn't mean to. While beautiful, they are not colorful or flashy in the conventional sense. I didn't want people to be misled by the color of the fish in the OP, since it doesn't retain that coloration.

Beautiful fish, thanks for posting that picture.

still not the same fish.. page 76 of surgonfish and rabbitfish by kuiter. ( usually refered to as the juv colouration However the head of c striates has numerous small yellow to orange dots even when juv. this does NOT. if i had a scanner i would scan the pic at the bottom oif the page with 50 + all over 8 inches and kook nothing like the tang above.. To be fair with L. A stuff, they had a rose band wrasse on there labeled as lancealotus cf. which it clearly is not.

In fact i will buy the one we got sent and take some pics. It also does not have any dots on the face and neither does the juv pic in the kutier book, just two lines through the eye.
