order my DT today...

here is a shot I took into the tank this morning... nothing in it yet but a couple of snails, its just finishing up cycling and starting go grow algae. Will probably bring more in snails in 10 days or so and will maybe setup the QT in a couple of weeks and think about a fish or two -- QT will likely run 8 weeks though, don't want to start off with any pathogens in the system.

Lookin good man! Its going to look great when you get some fish and coral in there. Knowing you do some good work with the camera cant wait to see some of your shots!!

Thanks...

Maybe made a mistake chunking a few turbos in there... They are sucking up algae too fast -- may need to wait longer to a cuc now, not enough for them to munch

Did you seed your tank with pods as well while there's no fish in it i notice at least with mine seeding with a very little amount has turned into huge populations from just a few weeks. I assume the reason is because nothing is really consuming them.

I probably should have but didnt... I did chunk a bag of them into the fuge though, so maybe some will get though the pump into the DT

Its never too late since a tank your size will have plenty of places for reproduction to occur even with masses of fish providing you just add some at night. If you know theres pods in your fuge you could always grab a ball of cheato and just splash it in a bucket of your water then pour the critters into your tank directly or use a tiny porous rock seed it for 2 weeks then throw it in your tank. Hope this helps

so I chunked some more pods into the fuge and some into the DT today... we'll see how it goes.

btw, the actual build thread is over at:

I don't know if cross posting is allowed on this forum, the others seem to accept it.

FOLLOW-UP: apparently this forum is sensitive to cross posting because part of the link was destroyed to prevent it from working??? Oh, well... insert the correct spelling for "R*2*R" into the link where all of the *'s were placed and you will get there.

Good to hear Im not to sure about the rules of cross posting but i see people do it from time to time so id like to assume its not too big of a deal. Have the turbos been keeping the algae on the back glass at bay?

If there are pods in your refugium, they will certainly populate your tank in the future. I think we are due for some photo updates, this has got to be my favorite build to follow. Definitely having serious tank-envy! :inlove:

among the 300+ snails are about 100 nerites, both large & small -- they seem to keep algae off of everything, in fact I'm concerned they may not have enough to eat. What is all over the side and back walls is snail eggs :)

OK, I will take some pics -- but there's still hardly anything in the tank other than the gaggle of snails -- 9 BGC in QT for another couple of weeks still.

Along with the snails, DT does have 1 urchin, 3 shunk cleaners, 3 fire cleaners and a serpent star (which refuses to surface and only sends up a tentacle or 2 peridically late at night).

I am getting ready to rework my DT drain system because it has been pointed out to me that I incorrectly inplemented Bean's system -- crap...

Just curious how the build is going? Any updates Byron?
thanks for asking. haven't had time to update both forums... find the build link above on another forum.

the short of it is that it's still very much a work in process. It has a few fish in it now + shrimp, crabs, snails, more fish in QT. No coral yet. mainly because I still don't feel like I have a good handle on all of the water paramours yet -- currently fighting a cyano outbreak :(
